Hi Capina!

I know exactly how you are feeling. I was pretty nervous about my surgery too! I'm telling the truth when I say, it's really not that bad. I was expecting the pain to be a lot worse than it was. You will be sore for a while, to me it kind of felt like I had done a ton of situps, just soreness basically. Try not to worry too much about it, it will be over before you know it. Good luck to you!

Hi,

I agree with Georgia Girl (above) The surgery was not as bad as I had expected. The part leading up to it - the anticipation and worrying were way worse than the actual surgery~ Follow all the doctor's instructions and everything will be great!

Good morning Capina. I am scheduled to be banded on March 1st. My doctor puts his patients on a liquid diet 2 weeks prior to surgery. I was just notified this past Wednesday so this is my 4th day on liquids. I am consuming less that 1000 calories a day and 60g of Protein. The surgeon says that a liquid diet helps start the weight loss as well as makes the liver softer and the surgery easier to perform. Good luck with your journey!

Hey Nicole, I am doing okay on the liquid diet. Today is day 5. I haven't had solid food at all and am sticking to the guidelines the doctor gave me. I am drinking 1000 calories a day and 60 grams of Protein. I am using Ensure and Adkins drinks as my main meals and then a lot of Water and G2 gatoraide to fill in the gaps. What are you doing during your diet? When is your surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
