Surgery Postponed

Recommended Posts

My surgery was to be this Wed.3-9-05.After my pretesting the anesthestgist? found irregularity on EKG & my white blood cell ct. was high. Now I have to see my PC doctor who will probably put me on antibiotics for 1-2 weeks then get blood work checked plus I will need a nuclear stress test & have that sent to cardiologist to be cleared for surgery. When all is cleared I will blood drawn 1 week prior to surgery.

3 years ago I've been trying for this surgery, 2 years ago had hyster. & a year ago had gall bladder surgery now THIS!!!!

PLUS I have a deadline to meet with Ins. Co. from 6 months after being certified puts me to may 29 or the appeals process will start over again.

Will keep everyone updated.

Keep all your prayer & thoughts my way.

A

Best wishes!!!

I was a week away from a gastric bypass 2 years ago and they noticed I had mitral valve regurgatation (heart murmer). They postponed my surgery and then for personal reasons I canceled the gastric bypass.

I got my band 5 days ago. I couldnt be happier!!!!

Things happen for a reason.

You will be in my prayers.

Patty

Awww, I know the disappointment. The proctor assisting my doctor had to cancel, I was scheduled Nov 18 and was moved to Dec 6. My mom just went through the ekg thing and she passed, so good luck, oh yea, she's 73.

Apple, I know you're frustrated. Please be thankful that you have such a thorough doctor. But you really do not want to have surgery while you are sick. You do not want surgery if you have an infection. Your heart is probably fine and a nuclear stress test is no big deal. It will be good to have a heart baseline report in your file. I hope you meet your deadline, but you want to know that you are in the best of health before banding. You've already been approved, and if you have to wait a few more days, you will get your band (and know that you're healthy too). Hang in there!

Apple: I know this is frustrating for you. But I agree with everyone else. IT all happens for a reason. The fact that you have such a thorough doctor should make you feel better. Although I know it still is frustrating. It will happen just continue to have faith.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
