Slow Users-Banded a year or more

What gripes me the most is I put it on a whole lot faster. LOL. Still I wouldn't trade my band for anything. It tells me when I am full which I never ever had that feeling. Even after eating a whole turkey dinner, five minutes later I was picking. Just staying the same makes me excited. Seriously you all are doing great as long as the scale points downward we should be happy with our accomplishment

I am a slow loser: I have no regrets because the only time I feel like a failure is when I weigh in. But all the facts make me very happy. I am cooking and eating very well. food has never tasted so good, not in an over indulgent kind of way. But in a healthy well planned meal sort of way. I "look" like I have lost about 80 pounds according to my sister. I feel great and am off my blood pressure meds. I exercise and am stronger than ever but I have a lot more that I would like to do.

Honestly if I don't focus on the scale, life is perfect. I actually have a life is what I meant to say...lol

How much do I look like I have lost?

Lana,

You look great! I'm not sure how much you lost, as you still have that same t-shirt on, so it's hiding a lot of space! :scared2: Space is good. I am wearing some of the same t-shirts now that I was wearing when I started, they still fit, but they are much longer now!

I agree that looking at the scale and focusing on that is what gets me down too, but I'm happy with how I've done so far. I'm starting finally to lose again after a seven month plateau. Don't know why, but my body is finally letting me lose again, and I've lost about 10 more pounds in the last month or so. Thank heavens.

Just keep on with your healthy eating and exercise at a level you can and it will eventually come off.

I was talking to my Mother the other day and I asked her what her Mother had died from, as I knew that she was never really well, but I didn't know what from. Apparently she had a bad thyroid and your thyroid affects so many things. That was interesting from a health history point of view.

Keep happy!

Mary

Thanks Mary I really needed some feedback. I think I am doing ok...I am scheduled for another fill next Friday. I think I am almost there, just frustrating that this is my 11th fill. That is something I did not count on, so many fills!

I never thought about the shirt being longer, I really just noticed that my belly was going away. Its flatter now then in that picture. Thanks for pointing that out. :scared2: Good looking out!

Looking at the pictures is undeniable, but again that scale can be misleading. If that is all I focused on I would have given up the first 6 months when I was working out like crazy.

I don't want to workout like a crazy person nor do I want to live on lettuce alone. So here I am waiting, hoping the next fill will do it.

Thanks again Mary!

Apparently, this is the forum I need to be in! I have been a very slow looser.....only 69 pounds in 17 months... yikes! But the scale keeps going down, so I guess that is a good thing....

Some of us just lose much slower. And it is nice to know that we know that we are doing the right things, and I'm content that it will come off eventually. It would have been nice for it to come off a lot faster, but to be honest, no one will ever think I had weight loss surgery! There's a bonus!

I belong in the slow losers club also. I'm very happy with my band just losing a lot slower then I expected. I feel great and I have had no problems. I'm going in on Tuesday for a fill not sure if thats what i really need but hope to get the scales moving a little faster.

Wow Michelle,

You are so close to that magic number of 200! I can't wait to get there.

Slow and steady eventually wins the race.

I have lost 6 lbs since January and each day I marvel that I am loosing weight and I am eating properly. I thought I would be disappointed that I have not dropped the lbs off in one year but strangely I am not. I am so comforted that I am not gaining and simply enjoying my journey. During our heat wave, I ate ice cream and maintained. Guess what I am saying to everyone is to accept our slow losses and not worry about the next guy.

I too am a slow loser. I marvel at the women who have lost all of their weight, sometimes 100 lbs or more, in less than a year. But I really am happy with the journey and I try really hard not to compare myself with anyone else. My life is so much better than it was and I am doing what I want. There are times when I get frustrated because I just want to get the weight off and say "I am at goal", but I'm doing what I want. I eat whatever I want, if I can, but in moderation. I eat healthy most of the time so I can be bad some of the time. If my kids want to go for an ice cream cone, we do that. I'm not going to extremes either way. I'll get there eventually I suppose. I love my new life. We just went to a Water park this past week. There is no way I would have done that before the band. I felt comfortable in my swimsuit and I wasn't afraid I would be too big. We had a blast with our kids and it doesn't get any better than that.

Really well said. My feelings exactly. I need to change my well ingrained habits of gulping quantities of food to eating modestly (which I am now doing thanks to the band). I slip up sometimes but I keep reminding myself that I am making lifestyle choices and changing a lifetime of habits. I never thought it would be easy and to me it is not but I am loving every minute of my journey.

I have only lost 40 lbs since my sgy. I get compliments every day b/c I have lost inches. I still see the same person I was. I need to learn to just say thank you and go on. I am bad about saying thanks, but the scale has not moved.

Firstly, congratulations......40 lbs less than what you were before surgery. Think of it, you may have been 40 lbs heavier if not for the band. If the scale has not moved but you have lost inches I so envy you. You are putting on muscle that will burn calories even faster. If you do not exercise, then try tracking your food for awhile. You may be surprised how extra calories creep in. For me I track every day so I find it no surprise when I havent lost at the end of the week (which is my weigh in day). I rarely get depressed anymore because I have control of not only what I eat but knowing the reasons why I stayed the same or lost.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
