Dayton Ohio--Dr Teel/McGuire Self Pay?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know how much these doctors charge for lapband surgery? They are at Miami Valley Hospital. Premiere Bariatrics, I believe.

I am self pay and just trying to get a ballpark price. I have a call into the office, but have not heard back yet.

Any opinion on these two guys???

Thanks a lot

I was just banded on 3/4/08 by Dr. Teel at MVH. He is a great doctor. I have really liked him so far. No complaints. Not sure of the cost for self pay. My insurance covered mine and my portion was $1400 so I am assuming somewhere around $14,000. I went for my 1 week post op check up today and everything is good. Still not driving too well or being able to sit for hours at a desk. He gave me clearance to start the mushy stage of foods. Pretty much eating whatever I want except Pasta, bread and fried stuff. In my opinion I would recommend him. Not to mention he's young and not to bad to look at either. I felt like he could relate more to me cause he is my age. He requires a 2 week pre op diet but nothiing liquid. Just a low calorie diet consisting of 2 small meals and a liquid Breakfast. Wasnt bad at all. I lost like 9 pounds on the pre op diet. I have lost a total of 15 now. Anything else you would like to know I would be happy to share. Good luck!

I had my surgery with Dr. Mobley/Dr. Watkins at Synchrony Health formerly known as Cincinnati Weight Loss Center on Feb. 22nd. They are wonderful, only do lap band placements. Dr. Mobley is actually banded and Dr. Watkins did his band!! They lay out all the financials in the very first seminar. I believe total was around $16,000. The Dr. portion is half of that and rest is surgery center, anesthisia etc. They also will make payment arrangements and can help you get a Care Credit Medical Loan.

Don't know if you have insursance or not. But if you got denied let me encourage you to not give up. It took me almost a year, but I continued to do everything my insurance company asked me to, and the lawyer at syncrony health helped and I finally got appoved.

Check out their website and good luck!! synchonyhealth.com

Let me know if you have any other questions about them.

I am going to Dr. Teel as well and have all my papers in and waiting on my approval letter from insurance (keeping my fingers crossed).

Dr. Teel has been really nice and I did not feel rushed when asking questions, his staff did not seemed bothered by be calling to see if they got all my papers - they let me know they submitted everything on the same day they got they recieved the last paperwork they need from the Psch doctor.

It has been a month since I got my band. Have lost 24 lbs. I feel great. Dr. Teel and his staff are great. I must have called them about 5 times within the first couple days after surgery with "stupid" questions. They were super! I wouldnt choose anybody else now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
