Kidney Stone

Recommended Posts

I am pretty resticted right now, not able to eat much, but trying to keep my eating up. My tummy has been growling a lot and I can only think it is from being empty.

Well....the other morning, at 1:45 am, I awoke with intense stomach pain, I thought I would die, I had nausia, sweat POURING down my face and chest, it was awful. The nausia led to totally dry heaving, and I mean, serious heaving.

Went to the ER, and after 5 hours of hell, was told they couldnt find anything wrong. I had my gal bladder out 10 yrs ago, so it wasnt that...but the pain was as intense.

Well, they sent me home saying it was probably just a severe stomach virus ( also found a urinary tract infection).... I then got a phone call at 6pm from the ER telling me the Radiologist found a kidney stone...finally, vidication!

I know a guy who lost lots of weight, from over 300 to a normal 200, by going low carb and he started developing kidney stones. He is right now in the hospital for it...it is a little scary to me.

Has anyone else suffered from kidney stones?

I've never heard anything like that...

I really really doubt that's at all possible.

See there's four types of stones. Calcium, uric acid, struvite, and cystine.

Usually, you see struvites with UTIs. So when you pass it, get it tested for what it is. I know that sounds disgusting, but you need to do it.

Oh, and I passed a uric acid stone a week ago. Yeah, thaaaaat sucked. Whatever you do, drink a SHITLOAD of Water and try to stay away from soda. It'll take less time to pass.

I am so sorry!!! I have had stones twice. I would rather give birth again! I agree, have it tested so that you know what type it is and drink, drink, drink...

Its the low carb that does it, in a lot of cases.

The trouble with a high Protein diet is that when you increase your Protein, to about 100grams a day it can DOUBLE the rate at which your body excretes Calcium - which is what makes one kind of kidney stones (not to mention predisposing you to osteoporosis). Also, the increased Water loss that high protein diets cause leads to increased uric acid levels in the blood - another cause of kidney stones (and gout).

What works best for weight loss and what is healthiest for your body all round is not necessarily the same thing. High protein, low carb diets can be not so great for your other body systems, dangerous for your kidney, bowels and arteries for starters.

Like in all things, it would appear that despite the fast weight loss you can get from low carbing and the weight management that it affords so many people who could not manage to lose weight before, moderation in all things is really the way to go because high processed carb diets can cause kidney stones too.

Protein first is a different thing, just making sure we get enough, becuase of course, we do need protein. The trouble with bandsters and the protein first rule though is that many people are full on their protein and dont get enough of anything else. But just being sure you get enough protein is different to really low carbing. If you're also getting your 2 fruit, five veg, some good wholegrains, it can also just be one of those things.

But if you have to take fibre supplements to stay regular and drink gallons of Water a day to flush out your kidneys and you're walking around in a daze of ketosis with foul breath, how healthy can a high protein diet really be?

Kidney stones are incredibly painful by all accounts, I hope you're feeling better.

Eat a balanced diet, get regular exercise, and drink plenty of Water throughout the day. I hope you feel better.

I know of three people within 12 miles in our area that just produce Calcium based stones....I would be one of them. The first one hit in September, 1994 and I have basically dealt with them at least every six weeks, if not once a month since that time. I have gotten to the point in the last seven years that I pass them all on my own (without pain medication) at my home and not in the hospital. I do have to be careful when they are moving through the left side. I have a double urator (sp?) so it does tend to get caught in the "v" and I have to go under to have it removed if it does not pass on it's own. I can not count the number of stones I have had in the last 13.5 years. I guess it's just my gift from God! Thanks, God

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
