What does your port feel like?

Recommended Posts

Hello....I was just banded on 2/15/08 , and yesturday I noticed that one side of my stomach (where the port is located), appears to be slightly larger than the other side of my stomach (feeling across):confused2:.

Can anyone shed any light on if this is normal or not.... I am so paranoid :tongue2: because I want this to work soooo bad, like others, I have tried every diet known to man and have not been sucessful for a long period of time.

I was banded on 2/11 and the port side (left side) is a little more swollen. i am hoping it will go down as the swelling subsides. i don't think it is anything to worry about.

Thank you because I was somewhat worried. I emailed the doctors office to ask if this is normal. I am waiting on a response.

It's more than likely just swelling from the surgery at this point. I actually have a little bulge myself but it's not under my port incision but the smaller incision right above it. There is a bit of a knot there. My understanding is that you can have a little edema at the incision sites. I don't think you should be able to feel your port at this point. Most people can't feel theirs until they lose a lot of weight.

At goal, mine is a visible hard lump on my stomach. Its not too bad if I"m standing up - have JUST enough loose skin/pudge there to make sure it doesnt stick right out but you can see it if you look for it. But if I put my arms up or lie on my back, it looks like half a walnut under my skin.

I didn't notice mine until I reached goal. I can feel it but I don't think it is noticeable. I'm not one to show my stomach, so I probably won't get it fixed. My doctor offered to switch it out to a low profile port or put it deeper in the muscle tissue, so it isn't so prominent, but at this point, it doesn't bother me enough to have another procedure! You just had surgery, so right now, I am sure it is just swelling. If it continues to stick out, or be obvious after time, you may need to get your port repositioned. Welcome to bandland!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
