Just got insurance approved yesterday, Getting the band put in March 3rd. It has been a 6 month process and my wife is 4 months behind me.. I didn't have to do a supervised weight loss program. I did find out that I have sleep apnea and have been on CPAP for 3 months. I really sleep good now. I am stoked about being thin and healthy again. I was in the Air Force for 14 years and got out 10 years ago and put on 150 pounds!. I don't have a hard number goal but want to lose a lot. I'll take it one pound at a time. I am glad there is such a large support group here. I look forward to chatting with you all.

Hello!

I lived in Gresham for 10 years before moving to Vancouver and Dr. Patterson also works with my surgical group (Drs. Paul Dally and Leslie Cagle).

Good Sam is a good hospital... wishing you the best of luck!

I live in Sheridan (close to McMinnville)....it's a 4 hour drive, but I think it will be worth it...I had my consultation March 12th, they are just verifying my insurance (BCBS Fed) and then setting a date...I am really hoping for April, but I guess we will see...I also have been trying to schedule my psych eval..

They have a lady they use in McMinnville...but, we have just been playing phone tag so far...Denise, what was your psych eval like??? I am kinda nervous...

G'night....hopefully I will get some answers tomorrow!!!

My psych eval was a piece of cake. She asked me what I planned to do when I couldn't use food for comfort. I told her I have learned that exercise is a great stress reliever.

She kept talking to me about the band not being a magic cure, and I told her I knew I would still have to diet and exercise. I said I have been dieting and exercising all my life and wasn't getting anywhere, so I hoped the band would be what would make the difference.

I have heard from other people not to say too much. Don't get into your past. Tell him/her that you know the bandster rules and you are sure you can follow them.

I have heard some psych evals have some sort of written form that has to be filled out, but mine was just an hour long conversation.

Another Oregonian checking in! I live in Eugene and I will be banded at the Bariatric center at Sacred Heart.... It was suppose to be by Dr. Umbach but I understand he is leaving the practice so his partner Dr. Yarbrough might be the doctor. Either way this has been a long journey that I am hoping is coming close to an end!

Nice to see all the Oregonians on here

That is so exciting! I wish I had insurance that would have paid for it.

April 1st is my dad's and my daughter's birthday. You're getting banded on a great day! Can't wait to hear how you're feeling. Are you staying in a motel

because the next day after surgery you have to have a swallow test.

Let me know if you need anything. I live really close to Dr. T's office.

April 1st is a good day...ya know, Dec 29th is a good day too..That's my bday...I noticed the first time I saw your name that we are going to be banded by the same Dr and that you were banded on my birthday...

I am coming down on Monday for all my preop stuff and staying in a hotel that night and then I will stay overnight in the hospital..Dr T wants to watch me a little closer because I have had a DVT before....so then I can have my swallow test that next morning and then go home..

I have my psych eval on Sunday afternoon..I met the lady who is doing it already...she is overweight herself and a huge supporter of the band...

I am grateful after reading about other people's experiences...

This is getting long...I might PM you later if that's okay...

Trying not to be too nervous!!

Erika

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
