Ok This Thursday I will be 3 weeks post op. I have a party to go to on Friday night and there will be alcohol served. My doctor says 6 months before having alcohol, but a few people that I know have the band started drinking pretty early on, at least sooner than 6 months out! I'm not worried about calories, I just want to know if anyone had alcohol as soon as 3 weeks post op?

Thanks in advance!

I'm less than 3 weeks and had a "doctor approved" glass of wine over the weekend. I sipped slowly (took me almost an hour to finish) and had no problems. I certainly wasn't hammered, but felt "relaxed".

The only reason they say 6 months is the calorie intake. That being said, alcohol will be okay. Try to stay away from carbonation though. Also, keep in mind you are not eating as much. You may find that you get buzzed more quickly. Good luck.

I am three weeks post op too, This past Saturday night, at a cocktail party I had 2 vodka martini's over the course of 4 hours. I was fine, a little buzzed, and 4 days later and none the worse for it. Hope this helps?

well, I booked next thurs , and tonight I went out for open mike in a local town in white rock bc. I also book a live blues band in our house. (we do this every end of oct and one more) I book next sat th 29th, and will have 2 lives band here at the house. I leave next thurs for surgery and know I wil no longer be drinking more than 1 glass of wine, I'm so ready for this. and will get it out sat. (I don't drink at the start of our party drink Water for a few hours, but will end up drinking about 3 glasses of wine. I know this part of my life will change, and am so ready for it. wish me good luck, but the music will stay play on.

This is me thinking about how I sometimes react to alcohol...I never know when it will make me feel queasy which could then possibly lead to getting sick or dry heaves which in turn could lead to somehow damaging the band...but sometimes I don't know when to say when either so I guess everyone is different.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
