Second Surgery Set 3/9/05

Recommended Posts

Well, I am very positive that this surgery will be sucessful. I had the band done in TJ Mexico in December and it was improperly placed. This time, I am going to stay in the states and pay the difference.

Sorry to hear you're having to have your surgery AGAIN, sounds like you're in good spirits, and as Martha would say, "that's a good thing".

To make a long story short, the band was placed at an incorrect angle and there was massive infection around the band and in the surgical incisions. Three of us went and I was the only one to get this infection and have band problems. I don't know if it was just a fluke or what. I started to get really week and got to the point that I couldn't get out of bed by myself or hold anything down. I went to the hospital and did a barium swallow and the result was improper placement. The band was completly closed and I couldn't get anything down.

I am really excited and look forward to the new me

Dr. Querry - Marshall, TX (she removed the first band). I went to the Molding Clinic in TJ for the first surgery.

Shannon, you're living proof that even serious band complications can have a happy resolution. I'm so glad you were able to get the care you need and that you were able to have another band placed! This time will be the charm. :)

Good luck and best wishes on the second surgery. We all know with any surgery some of us have problems while others do not. Lets hope this time round you get to join the majority.

Well, I had to be postponed from the 9th to the 11th. Then when they got in there, there were so many adhesions that they had to open me up and do the surgery. I am getting along slow, but steady. I am taking in Clear liquids and I haven't been on bit hungry. I guess I am on my way now.

I would like to thank all of you for your thoughts, responses, and prayers.

I will check in soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
