I have seen lots of information about stitches, glue, and steri stips but I have staples. I've never had them before. Does it hurt when they take them out. I have about 30 of them.:)

I didn't have staples with my band surgery, just stitches and steri strips. I did have them with a prior C-Section. 52 of them to be exact. My stomach looked like it had its own zipper!! It doesn't hurt to have them taken out. I wouldn't choose that as a fun weekend activity by any means, but its not what I would call painful. It feels like a tiny pinch and it itches a little. Nothing to be anxious or worried about, you'll be fine. :)

Ouch, laughing still hurts. Thanks for the information. That makes me feel a lot less worried.

Don't do what I did. The day after I had my c-section I was watching cartoons in the hospital room and drinking my Water at the same time. Something in the cartoon made me laugh and then the Water went down my wind pipe. Needless to say from the laughing and then coughing I was in pain! I guess I should have been watching serious stuff since I was a mother now, but I'm still a big kid, oh well.

You'll be fine though :)

WOW...you have 50 staples from lapband surgery? That sounds like an aweful lot to me. I had stitches that disolved and that was only on the port scar. However, I did have staples with my two prior c-sections and I have to be completely honest and tell you that it did hurt me. The object that they use to remove them reminded me of a staple remover from my desk at work. They basically work the same way as the ones that take staples out of paper. They grip the staple and pull it out. In fact, while I was getting them out one time before, the staple flew across the room (it was kind of funny). It didn't last long, so it's not that bad, but when they were being pulled out, it did hurt. Good luck to you...you'll be alright!

I had staples when I had my gallbladder out, I do was afraid it was going to hurt, I had one staple that was out half way, so I tried to take it out myself, it hurt TONS doing it by myself, when I went to the office, I didn't feel; them take them at all..all that worry for nothing, you will be fine...

Gosh, I am embarrassed to admit this, I am not sure what I have! Obviously it is not staples, but my wounds are still covered with the steri-strips. I am thinking glue since one strip fell off and there was nothing there. I don't think the sutures could have dissolved that quickly (banded 2/11) Guess I will find out at my post-op on 2/27.

I had staples for gallbladder and c-sections. Sometimes it stings when they take them out. But sometimes it doesn't. I guess that's not very helpful, is it? :tongue2:

They used a little remover tool with mine, it slides in --- under the center of the staple, and when squeezed it bends it in the middle pulling the ends loose from the skin without issue!

I had way toooo many to count with my hysterectomy. I had some complications, and was cut both across and up and down. He come in, looked at them, rubbed some petroleum jelly on all of them, said he'd be back in a few minutes, and when he come back they come out with little to no pain. Like has been said, the worst part is wanting to rub it or scratch lightly, and they are still removing others!!! Not a big deal at all!!!

I actually only have 30 staples. They are pretty close together, three or four in the smaller incisions and ten in the big incision. At least with them close togther I shouldn't have bad scars and they seem to be healing well. They come out on Monday. 10 days post op.

Thanks for the insight, I appreciate it.:tongue2:

My Lap Band staples were in for six days (surprised yours will be in for ten!) so I always laugh when I read people who say they went back to work in four days! I was very tender and did everything very gently until I had them removed. Can't imagine putting on clothes and going to work every day!

Anyway, I talked to the surgeon the entire time he was removing them and I was so surprised at how little they pinched--he was so fast in removing them. I DID have one that was a bugger, but hey, that's not bad considering how many we had!

Good luck on Monday--you'll do fine! :smile2:

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
