Fibromialgia a comorbidity?

Recommended Posts

My first question is Fibromialgia even a comorbidity? Drrr... sort of frustrated because I've put on a lot of weight this past few years and now I'm older my joints are hurting. Doesn't seem hard for me to put two and two together. Fat=achy joints.

Okay, so I told my primary (this is the 3rd time I've seen her within a year and told her this) joints were hurting. They are, ankles, knees, and some pain in my lower back specifically when I try to exercise or am overly active. I got a call about my bloodwork and while I do have some indicators that I have inflammation BUT she feels I may have Fibromialgia. I researched it and from what I read I don't feel I have even close to the symptoms most suffer from with Fibromalgia. I will let the specialist make the decision ultimately. Weird...random thing I have to worry about now.

I do the insurance pre-cert for a local bariatric surgeon and from my exp w/ the companies I have worked with they do not consider that as a co-morbid condition. Sorry!!!!! There are so many things we could add to their list but they only are looking for a few select ones.

Fibromyalgia is not limited to the obese....it is in fact quite indiscriminate in who it attacks!!! My Mom has it.

I believe a stripped down definition of co-morbidity is basically any condition that will end up killing you if your weight isn't reduced. I've had some issues with United Healthcare regarding those lovely things... I don't have any so they won't approve me. Just waiting to appeal. Good luck to you and your band endeavors! Feel free to check out my posts about the issues I've had with UHC recently...

If you don't think you have fibromyalgia, you might not want a diagnosis. My mom has it and it means that when she was in several car accidents (none of which were her fault) her car insurance stopped paying for treatments related to the accident, saying it was all due to fibromyalgia, and she was stuck paying big co-pays through her medical insurance. It's really been an albatross around her neck and she hasn't gotten much relief from it even after 10 years since dx.

Kat is right that anyone, big or small can get fibromyalgia. I did see some study abstracts on PubMed that said obese women with FM had a huge relief in symptoms after WLS, though. Hopefully your insurance will approve you even though FM is not a fatal condition.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
