GinaSue67 0 Posted February 20, 2008 Had my band surgery Monday 2/18! The first day post-op was rough, because I did not take my pain meds...doc prescribed something with codeine, and I don't do codeine well. Needless to say, Tylenol did very little, but I guess the worst part was the pressure from all the gas. Moving around helped, but who wanted to move around a lot??? Also found it hard to tolerate much, as far as Protein Drinks or Vitamins yesterday. Everything tasted funky. Today, I have already had a Protein Shake, lots of Water, my vitamins and a Jello. Feeling much better, moving much better....finally showered! LOL Feeling very excited about my new life!!!:biggrin2:

Jpet 0 Posted February 20, 2008 Congratulations! I'm so happy that things are going well for you. And even though you know this already, moving around and taking short walks is soooo helpful. I was so blessed to not have much by way of gas pains, but when I did, walking really helped even though it was tough at the beginning of each walk. Think of it as your job for the next few days to try and get up and move around every hour. My doctor gave me a goal of 200 steps per hour. So, I figured out how many steps were in a lap around my apartment, and I would do laps every hour. By the fourth day, I was walking outside and it took me 20 minutes to walk eight blocks (which is really slow), but it helped so much. Now, I'm three weeks post-op and I went for my first hour long hike last Monday, which was wonderful! Take care of yourself!
StLouisGal 1 Posted February 20, 2008 Walking helps a bunch. I was up an walking about 30 minutes after leaving the recovery room and every hour after that. At first it was only two or three minutes down the hall but by the time I left the hospital 30 hours later I was walking ten minutes an hour. I have had no gas pain. The pain from walking was much less than the pain from gas. I am now 5 days post-op and feeling about 95%, except that the staples are itching like crazy. Guess there is not real help for that. I just wish I could get outside. Right now the temp is 19 degrees with a wind chill of 4 degrees so I am not sure a stroll outside would be the best idea. My house is much smaller than it seems when I have to clean it. :hurray: Hang in there, everybody and keep walking.
