Can't drink water or anything for that matter

Recommended Posts

I am having HUGE problems drinking. I do not know why. I can drink a cup of tea/coffee in the morning, but that is it. For the rest of the day I have to fight with myself to get my liquids in. I used to be a chugger, now I have to be a sipper and I just do not know how to sip. How much is a sip? is it 1 oz, 1/2 oz? I have this feeling in my chest like a golf ball, not sure what that is, I have an appointment tomorrow with my Dr, but I have a feeling that the chugging that I was doing the first week out may have done some damage. Any advice?

Patti....sorry you're having problems. You are probably drinking too much too fast. It's been so hard for me to change my habit of chugging Water. I take a 1oz sip of water every few minutes. If I drink too much too fast, I get the same golfball feeling. It's highly doubtful that you have done any damage and I imagine your doc will tell you to "sip slowly". Good luck and let us know what he says.

So, it turns out that not being able to drink so my is not a good thing. I am dehydrated. I seem to have a 'fickle' band as they call it. it is very tight in the morning and loose at night. So i have to drink warm liquids in the am and work my way towards cooler at night.

Let me just say that tuna never tastes so good. I am slowly loving every tiny bite.

for what it's worth when i obstructed after my first surgery, i started having esophageal spasms...wow did that hurt..like a big ball in the chest..very similar feel to a heart attack...it doubled me over and i'm pretty tough...i found after he resolved the obstruction i still has painful spasm that warm liquid helped and the medicine Levsin help me with the spasm...perhaps if this continues it would be somethingto ask about

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
