Frustrated & Scared

I'm going to have spotted dick and custard tonight!
An English friend of mine told me that some restaurants have started listing this pudding as "Spotted Richard." Say it ain't so!

Glad you're feeling better, Scotty. Aren't those first bites of solid food wonderful?

mmmm spotted dick sounds fantastic! I too still have a problem with taking one bite too many and then I feel miserable. I guess we all are always on that learning curve. Good luck and keep us posted!

NOPE it has me too. UGH!! When will we ever learn. LISTEN to our bodies and we will be much happier. I hate it when I PB. I do it less frequently but man when I do. OY!!

Gee, I thought I was the only bandster with that one or two bites too many.

I just never get that I'm not hungry feeling until I have that one bite too much. I have been working on it, but I seem to do it more in the evening than any other time.

THANK YOU SO MUCH ALEX!!!!! I was wondering about the exact same thing-and your words of encouragement are very very comforting. I have my first fill in a few weeks-and I was a little upset about the temporary weight loss standstill. I really needed to hear that it was normal, and that I can expect things to change with a fill.

It's true - a big supermarket chain re-named Spotted Dick as Spotted Richard! Ridiculous really and they had so many people laughing at them they changed the name back pretty quick - the british version of a 'wardrobe malfunction' I suppose!

For those foodies out there, here's Delia's recipe. A dinner party talking point, if nothing else. I add a teaspoon of mixed spice as well. Can you get suet in the US? I remember when I lived in the US I couldn't get it which was frustrating when having comfort food sunday lunches with all the sad old expats in LA.

By the way, I managed about a tablespoon but it was heavenly!

On the feeling full point, the last two days (as well as Breakfast this morning) are really bringing it home to me that if even if I don't feel full whilst I'm eating, it's amazing that five minutes later I really do. This morning I had a scrambled egg with an ounce of cheese, some guacamole and hot sauce - yum - the whole lot could have fitted on the palm of my hand. I could definitely eaten another one immediately I'd finished, but I went online instead, and what do you know - now I'm full as can be! Amazing...couldn't put another bite in my mouth even if I wanted to. Long may it continue!

It is indeed a hard time, the pre-restriction stage. And no matter how many times you read about it, hear other people talk about it, when it happens to you it's a whole new ball game. But we'll repeat it as often as necessary! :):D :D

Fancy wanting to eat spotted dick..Is that not the reason you have had the band in the first place? Next will it be toad in the hole for your next dinner.I say this with a huge smile on my face as these are the reasons that Iam awaiting the Band.I would like to know being an aussie last which lived in surrey for many years where did you have your band done? As if you are still in the UK I still have friends over there that would be interested as they have had little success with slimming world

I had my operation at The Princess Grace Hospital in London. Surgeon Mr Rogers. www.gordcentre.co.uk

Yes - I had a tablespoon of spotted dick! And for the first time in my life I am not going to beat myself up about it. If you have read any of my preceding posts you will see that I have been surviving on clear Soup and fruit juice for 2 weeks. I haven't managed to take in more than 700 calories a day. As it is, I still haven't made it to 1000 calories Dick or no dick. (By the way, for those interested the etymology is that 'dick' in olde english was a kind of cheese. The recipe has changed over the years needless to say).

I'm glad you understand that the point of that band is to control your intake not deprive you of foods that you like. Feeling satisfied on such a small amount of food is the most amazing sensation! So liberating. I've been having to go and work out my calories intake to convince myself that I have no reason to feel guilty. Here are the equations: hungry=good; full=bad; feeling bad=eating too much>Welcome to the vicious cycle that is the life of a fattie!!!!

For 20 years I associate feeling full with feeling guilty. Such destructive and pointless way to live. NO MORE!!!!! Hurrah!!!!!!

The last time my Mom was in England she brought me back a copy of Delia's cooking school cookbook. Love it! Of course, my favorite recipe for yorkshire pudding is from a 1040's cookbook (my copy is a reprint from the early 1950's.) mmmm yorkshire pudding with onions....

Thanks for the link to her site! I didn't bring any cookbooks into exile with me...

Brava, Scotty! Sounds as if you're doing much better, and what a great attitude you have.

I'm a Delia fan too, although I admit I've converted to Nigella, whose "Feast" cookbook has some fabulous recipes. She has such a big following over here that the publisher produced an edition with all the measurements in cups and tablespoons instead of the dreaded kilos. chocolate gingerbread -- yum. Oops, sorry, I shouldn't have mentioned that...

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
