Iluvharleys 15 Posted April 28, 2005 Angie - You probably shouldn't be on applesauce yet, only liquids. Did your doctor tell you what to eat? Usually right after surgery at least for a week it is Clear Liquids, such as broth, juices, popcicles, Water, coffee, tea. Not everyone gets the shoulder pain, only some of us do. You are one of the lucky ones if you don't get it. The port area is the longest to heal up, so it will get better each day, but usually takes a few weeks at least to start feeing a lot better. I am happy to hear you had a pretty good surgery! Good luck to Larry! I hope his goes as well as yours!
angiebell 0 Posted April 28, 2005 Really? My Post op diet plan say I can eat yogert, sugar-free pudding, applesauce, warm Soup or broth, and baby food. It says that is day 1-14. I ate a little applesauce and feel okay so far. Maybe it will just take it easy and stay on the Clear Liquids. I am feeling really tired and think I might need to lay down for a while. Thanks for letting me know about the applesauce. Hopefully it won't come back up. Still have a huge amount of gas. I can hear it in my abdomen.
Iluvharleys 15 Posted April 28, 2005 Hey, if your doctor said you can have it, then do it. Most doctors say liquids only so that you can heal properly. The first few weeks of healing is very important to your band. You might want to double check and see if the first week really includes that stuff. You should always do what your doctor tells you to do, not what you read on here, each doctor has a different set of rules.
Guest Crazy Cowgirl Posted April 28, 2005 Hope everyone is feeling better and better!!!! I was catching up on my research and became impressed with everyone's sharing of their experiences. I know what to expect and what not to get nervous about...you guys are amazing. Thanks for letting me know what's up with the actual surgery, the gas and shoulder pain to follow and what to eat or not, depending on your doctors recommendations. Some of this may not happen to me, but it's good stuff to know and put's me at ease...it's like you are holding my hand every step of the way. I meet on Tuesday 5/3 with doc. he gives me my powder and goes over my surgery plans etc. I think he wants me to start the powder 2 weeks prior on the 5/12. My surgery is 5/26. When I eat now, I can't help but think about how different this will be after banding. One of the questions I have for my doctor is what happens with current medications you are taking like Zocor....do we change our dosages, and how do they affect us after banding? I probably don't need to worry so much, I'm sure everything will get explained. Thanks again for all the great feedback, please keep it coming.
rsduhe 0 Posted May 3, 2005 Just wanted to let you know that shoulder pain is very common after all Laparoscopic Surgery. I've been in surgery, as a RN, for over 20 years and I've heard it time and again. Doctors believe it is the migrating CO2(carbon dioxide gas) that they fill you belly with, so don't worry. The gas is finally absorbed by the body.
Angeleyes 1 Posted May 3, 2005 Cowgirl, I can take capsules ok but I think we need to check with our Doctor's about anything that needs to be crushed. Some medications can be but others cannot.
Prsloan 0 Posted May 4, 2005 Hi, You all don't know me but I feel like I know you....I've been reading all of your wonderful threads and am so impressed by the group. So, I was banded last Saturday in Mexicali by Dr. Alberto Acevas who was great. I've been trying to adjust to all this liquid, periodic shoulder pain, and GAS! Reading all of your messages is really helpful. Thanks, Paula
