Dr. Spiegel's Staff

Recommended Posts

I wrote this out of anger...which as we all know is not using good judgement.

I am still frustrated, but I think I will take my issues up with his staff directly.

I'm so sorry. That is very frustrating and why I chose Dr. Spivak. His staff is very friendly and they actually call me back the same day with answers to my questions. I once had a question about my insurance coverage changing and they called my insurance company and got back to me in less than an hour. I was very impressed. I ended self-pay and needed a letter for my tax return and they prepared it and was ready when I went to pick it up. They never acted annoyed when I called before surgery and asked a lot of last minute questions. It is also very easy to get in for fills. Dr. Spivak is also very friendly and actually sat with me and when I said I didn't have anymore questions he said there were a few areas that I missed and he gave me additional information that was really important. I am so happy I chose him.

It is really sad because I've heard Dr. Spiegel is an excellent surgeon.

I have also heard Spiegel is a good surgeon, but there have been many posts about his staff and office problems.

Hope everything works out for you!

I too initially looked at Spiegel and then was not impressed with the office staff. Since after care is THE most important aspect of the band, I wanted a good experience and went with Dr. Spivak....I love him and no regrets whatsoever. I understand Dr. Spiegel is a reputable surgeon, but you have to have the whole package or it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I'm very happy working with Dr. Spivak.

I feel that way about my surgeon's staff sometimes too. You really can't email them, and it takes a day or so to get a call back. But when you are physically in the office, they are great.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
