wow eight fills you know that the band does not lose fill, my dr. will only give 3 to 4 fills after that he says its just making money, i asked him about the fills, its the pouch that is stretched out., i have been banded since nov. o6 with 2 fills, when i feel like i need a fill i was told to eat liquids and soft, to let the pouch go back to shape...has any one else heard this...

No I haven't. It's been described to me this way (by my PA) & if anyones heard something different pls contribute.

Fills are needed, not because your loosing the saline "fill", but because your stomach & surround fat around it are shrinking. Like a belt theory, the more weight you loose, the tighter you adjust your belt.

I'm on fill No 5 & My Doc does not want my meals to be liquid *other than the 24hrs after a fill*...I might look further into why your Dr will on give you 3-4 fills, that doesn't seem right from what I've read much here or in my own experience with my Dr & husband also being banded...

That is LUDICROUS! I sure hope that doc isn't looking after patients with any conditions or life threatening ilnesses. Can you imagine a diabetic ..."Um, sorry maam, but I cannot tell you how many units of insulin I just gave you". "I prefer not to tell my patients."

Tell you doc that you have decided to hold back the funds for the surgery, and that you have cancelled the cheque. Tell him you think it would be better if you paid him in installments. You will determine just how mcuh he gets each time you see him

Can you honestly believe that "professional" people pull this kind of crap? Sorry for coming on strong here, but in my opinion, you need to be involved in every aspect here. In order to manage your band, you need your doctor to be honest and upfront with you. Just as he would expect from you. This cannot be a game of chance ..... UNREAL!:)

My husband has a 10 cc band. He got 4 cc for his first fill, 2 additional for his second, and 1 additional for his third for a total of 7 cc. He can still eat a full restaurant meal, so obviously a more conservative approach would not work with him!

my doctor claims to take the fat pad off prior to placing the band- that way theoretically my fills will last longer. I do worry that eventually there will be some distension of the pouch. I havent even had my first fill yet and already I am planning to do at least 1 day of liquids a week in attempt to keep my pouch small. I hope I can stick to it!! We shall see!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
