Eating like a child again

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else cut up all their meat into tiny pieces as soon as they put it on their plate? If I don't cut everything up immediately I inevitably forget and wind up taking way too much at a time. Ouch! Just wondering if I"m the only one who "needs her food cut up!"

If I am at home, I tend to!!! I will just chop it all at once! If I am out, I cut a thin strip, and piece it up in tiny bites, then when it is all done, I cut another thin strip. Now pre band, the strips would have likely been a bite in and of themselves---but now they are many bites!!!

I also never use a full size dinner plate at home, use the salad plates instead. But I have heard of people taking their child size utensils out with them--I have never even entertained the idea of actually using them, let alone taking them somewhere!!! LOL

More power to those who do not let others judge nor guide them, they are better than I!!

I never thought of doing it that way--thanks!! I'm the worst about "first-bite syndrome". One big bite, and I'm miserable.

I told someone today that I couldn't have a celery stick because it would "spoil my appetite". She said, "What are you--FIVE?"

Yup, turnin' back the clock a little each day...

You know, I was thinking about this a few weeks ago. I'm always cutting up my son's meat and I was looking at his plate, then looked at my plate......... and my pieces were cut up smaller than his, lol! It sounds weird to say that my 2 year old can eat more than me........

I babysit for my 3 year old granddaughter each day, and when we go to meet my DH for lunch, our choices are very limited, with regards to time, and what is close enough---so more often than not we end up at Taco Bell--where my granddaughter and I share a childrens meal!!! 2 Tacos---and she gets the cinnamon twists!!! If I am feeling like it sometimes I order a side of pintos and cheese, but then I cannot finish my taco!!!

DH says we are a pretty cheap date the 2 of us!!!

Oh yeah....she ALWAYS gets the toy too......no fair!

I have heard of people taking their child size utensils out with them--

I confess... I am one of those people...

I tend to eat very fast, and take big bites... so, before I got banded, I bought some teeny tiny spoons to eat with... they are actually souvenir spoons from the places I want to visit once I get "skinny" ;)

So, every time I put that little spoon in my mouth, I think about how much fun I am going to have in Alaska, Australia, Jamaica, etc.

I do not take them to restauarants (but I have only been to one since being banded)... but I do use them at work, and at home.

LOL, my DH says the same thing about me and our son! Now, if I could just get him to work on his portion size............

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
