I was just checking on my fellow February Bandsters. I'm doing very well now. Had a scare this weekend with sharp pain in abdomen, but it was my fault. I hadn't taken my Prilosec since surgery and the lining of my big stomach was mad at me. All better now. Down 21 lbs. WooHoo!

Twenty one pounds, wow. I stepped on the scales this am for the first time since surgery on Friday. I'm down six pounds. It won't be official until I see the doctor on Feb. 25 to have my staples out. I can hardly wait. I managed to get in all my Protein and six glasses of Water so far today. I think I'll get the last two in before I go to bed.

I agree that you should join us on the Victorious Valentine's thread. We have a great group and they have been super supportive. Everyone is about the same stage.

Take care.

I keep reading about people drinking Protein Drinks the first week post op. I had lapband and a hiatal hernia repair on February 13th and can't have anything but Clear Liquids until a full week (Wednesday). My doctor seems to be very strict, and I'm fine with that, but curious what others are doing. I'm also curious if serious gas/rumbling was a problem the first week.

They started me on Isopure clear the day of surgery. As soon as I got home I was to take 4 four ounce servings of Protein powder mixed with skim milk. Their standard for a Protein supplement is twice as much protein as carbs, (20 grams protein, no more than 10 grams carb)

The nurse fussed at me a little for getting 78 grams of protein yesterday (said too much protein was bad for kidneys) She told me to back off to 60 grams and lots of liquids.

My literature says Protein shakes will continue through week 6 when solids are introduced. After that it is ok to take a Protein shake "to make sure" but all necessary protein should be available through the foods eaten.

So far everything he has told me has worked perfectly and I'm sticking with his plan. It is a proven plan. I guess every doctor has a different experience.

Hey Band Fans!

I am so excited. I am getting banded Friday. OMG! I am running around trying to get everything together. I feel like I'm nesting for my new arrival. lol. I have a question that I know has been asked a million times before. I apologize but I have been trying do a search and not having any luck....I am looking for a shopping list of things to have at home post-op. I know I need liquid Tylenol, broth and Protein but whatelse. I am also trying to find a good deal on a Magic Bullet or Immulsion blender. What else would be essential? Last but not least, Does anybody have protein products that are going to waste, that I may be able to buy or take off your hands? I would pay for shipping and everything.

Thank you so much!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
