Thanks Megan, I'm wishing you a smooth surgery and a speedy recovery too! And the same to everyone on this week's list!

I'm really looking forward to finally being a bandster at last, but I'll admit I'm VERY nervous about the surgery :( (I get so anxious abut these things!). I've been so glad to hear how well everyone else before us has done, I hope I can report the same! Anyone out there that doesn't mind sending prayers and positive thoughts my way, I'd love you for it!

Hmmmm . . . we've had Mardi Gras week Bandsters, and Valentine's week Bandsters, I think we're President's week Bandsters (Today is President's Day). I noticed on my calendar that there is a full moon on the day I'm having surgery (here in Michigan on the 21st). So I guess that makes me a lunar (or loony? :tt2:) bandster. LOL!

Ok . . . sorry to ramble . . . I'm off to do some packing . . . can't wait for Thursday to get here and be over with.

Warm hugs & good luck all! ;)

I am praying that your procedure will go as smoothly as mine has. I haven't had any real pain, just a lot of soreness and discomfort, Before you know it you will be awake and ready to walk around. Get up and walk as often as you can, maybe only for two or three minutes at first but get yourself vertical and moving. I think that helped me a lot. I have had no gas pain in my back or shoulders. I had a little in my chest but walking made that go away immediately.

I'm praying for everyone on the list this week. You will do great!

Thanx St Louis!!! I'm hoping to be one of those people that gets outta the hospital and then mosie's right along. My son has a basketball game that nite that he is dying for me to be at, so even if I have to be in a drug induced haze I will be attending.

And Lori honestly I'm not nervous about the surgery at all, I've worked in a hospital in the OR for many many years and have never seen anyone not make it off the table, you only hear the horror stories, you don't hear from the thousands of people everyday that have uneventful surgeries. If you've done your research and chosen your surgeon wisely then you should have no worries. These are highly educated professionals that have made it their life's work to take care of you.

I am however nervous about the whole food thing after the fact. Scared that like so many other "diets" I will fail at this. Wow, I just realised that I have more of a fear of not losing weight then I do of death. Boy do I need to see a shrink:w00t:

Good luck girl and keep in touch so we can compare notes.

I take it you don't have to stay overnight? I did. I am totally with you on the ballgame. I am planning to drive across the state to see my neice play her final college home game next week. As long as you take it slow you'll be fine. Just watch out for the bugs and germs out there. You don't need the flu on top of surgery.

The food thing will take care of itself. Just follow your doctor's orders to a T and you will lose weight. According to my bathroom scales I am down six pounds since Friday!

Wow six pounds since Friday that is fantastic!!

Yea I'm in and out the same day, my DBF is dropping me off in the morning and then picking me up after work. My daughter and my mother want to come but honestly I don't want to have to worry about anyone else while I'm having surgery. I have worked in hospitals for years, so I'm very comfortable in that situation and it will just be easier to be there by myself. Don't want people staring at me while I'm in bed:tt2:

Today I'm on Clear liquids and then I have to call at 4 to find out what time I need to be there in the morning. Getting a little nervous but just really wanna rock and roll and get this over with before I have anymore time to think about it.:(

Side note,

Today at work a co-worker writes me this long note and puts it on my desk.

"I think I know whats going on with you. Im a nozy B and just figured things out..... If you need me to do anything just let me know. Im so excited for you."

After reading this over and over I think she thinks im PREGGERS?!?!? :blink:LMAO!!!!

All this because i've been running to the potty like a nut(this liquid diet is killer) and a little cranky, well i guess those are some symptoms, lol. I dont know what to say to her at all. I just smiled and put the note away.

I just wanted to say BIG HUGS and thanks for your support Amy! I don't know what I'd do without you, and all the wonderful people here! I'll post again after my surgery is over . . . I started a new thread, but I mis-typed and put it as my surgery on the 25th . . . it's not, it's tomorrow on the 21st . . . I'm too nervous to think today, LOL :)

Thanks Megan for your info too! I've got an excellent doctor that I have great confidence in, and the hospital I'll be staying at is one of the best in our state . . . so I think I'll be ok (if it were my time to "go", I just leave that up to God) . . . my worries about the pain, as I've put in a few other posts here. Ah well. I'll get through it! Let me know how you do too Megan! I'll be chatting with you again soon :(

Just keep swimming! :wink2:

Rhapsody, you are going to do great. Confidence in your doctor and a good hospital experience are important. It will be over before you know it. We're all looking forward to hearing your report when you get home.

We gotta keep um guessing.

Looking forward to hearing your good report later in the week.

Hi Alyssa! It's nice to meet a fellow Michigan Lap-Bandster, who's also a Victorious Valentine! :)

I live in Waterford, near Clarkston. So you're not too far away! :wink2: Please keep in touch, we've lots in common to share! Aren't you tired of this Michigan snow, ice, and COLD?! :( I can't wait for Spring to get here, so I can start walking outside again.

Take good care & let me know how you do with your surgery!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
