Dr. said "no more protein shakes!?!?"

Recommended Posts

Yes, the way to get the optimum results from the band is to eat regular food, not to mention the fact that regular food is healthier. Protein Shakes and bars are fine in a pinch, but you should be able to get all the Protein your body requires in real food. The Liquid Protein shake is the same as drinking with a meal.

sorry if you have multiple variations of this post--I'm having internet problems.

If you don't take Protein Shakes daily, what are you eating to get your Protein? Would you provide a sample menu for a day--please include the amount of food.

thanks.

With good restriction my daily food looks like:

Breakfast - 4oz LF yogurt with a 1/4c of granola & berries

lunch - 4oz of Protein such as tuna / chicken / Egg salad / Fish / Sushi & 1/2c of Veggies or salad

dinner - Same as lunch *If I go out to eat I choose a lean option and only eat half...sometimes less*

snack - *if I need one* I'll have a handful of nuts or a EAS Carb Control 110calorie Protein shake

My Dr also does not prefer Protein Shakes as meals.....

Uh, lets see

Yesterday I ate:

Breakfast 1/4 cup low fat muesli with berries and banana and yogurt

lunch - 2 ryvitas with avocado, cheese and tuna, 1/4 cup mixed sultanas and walnuts

afternoon snack: rest of the banana I'd used at breakfast

dinner: pan fried fish, mashed potato and sweet potato and broccoli.

That's an average day for me. I dont count Protein and I dont supplement it. I didnt lose my hair or my muscle and lost weight just fine.

I love Ryvita's - especially with Peanut Butter and honey for breakfast, yum.

sultanas are just little raisins - a different variety of grape. They're sweeter and softer, you know how in raisins the sugar's kind of cyrstallised? Sultanas dont really do that. They're bigger than currants though.

Yup. My doctor said the same thing. NO SHAKES! the only time he allows them now is after a fill for 24 hours. Other than that he wants me on a regular diet, eating regular food. I'm not allowed Protein Bars either. He considers that a "snack" and he does not want me snacking. Period.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
