bigbaby 4 Posted February 18, 2008 My doctor told me to STOP drinking Protein Shakes. His reasoning was that the liquid goes straight through, you don't feel full as long and your stomach isn't doing the work. He suggested that I get ALL of my Protein from food. Has anyone else been told this??
neveragain 9 Posted February 18, 2008 He's not wrong about that. shakes are good for Protein, but they're not good to keep you full.
chattykathywlc 0 Posted February 18, 2008 yep my Doctor doesnt want me to do Protein Shakes either. Too high in calories and go thru too quickly!
georgia girl 35 Posted February 18, 2008 My doctor doesn't mind if I drink ONE Protein Shake a day. I drink one for Breakfast every morning because I am very tight in the mornings. Believe it or not, it does keep me full for a good 3 hours.
Chrisann 0 Posted February 18, 2008 I have problems in the mornings sometimes, so have a slim fast. After getting a fill I have to be on liquids for two days, so I go back to the Protein Shakes too.
kbinaz 0 Posted February 18, 2008 Yes, the way to get the optimum results from the band is to eat regular food, not to mention the fact that regular food is healthier. Protein Shakes and bars are fine in a pinch, but you should be able to get all the Protein your body requires in real food. The Liquid Protein shake is the same as drinking with a meal. Jachut 487 Posted February 18, 2008 I was told only if I cant do breakfast. And even then, to maybe make a smoothie with fruit and an egg in it, rather than powdered stuff.
bigbaby 4 Posted February 18, 2008 sorry if you have multiple variations of this post--I'm having internet problems. If you don't take Protein Shakes daily, what are you eating to get your Protein? Would you provide a sample menu for a day--please include the amount of food. thanks.

Brandy~ 2 Posted February 19, 2008 My doctor has already warned me that he recommends 1-2 Protein Drinks for 2 weeks after surgery but within a month he said you should just get all your Protein from foods.
Jachut 487 Posted February 19, 2008 Uh, lets see Yesterday I ate: Breakfast 1/4 cup low fat muesli with berries and banana and yogurt lunch - 2 ryvitas with avocado, cheese and tuna, 1/4 cup mixed sultanas and walnuts afternoon snack: rest of the banana I'd used at breakfast dinner: pan fried fish, mashed potato and sweet potato and broccoli. That's an average day for me. I dont count Protein and I dont supplement it. I didnt lose my hair or my muscle and lost weight just fine.
georgia girl 35 Posted February 19, 2008 Jachut, I had to google ryvitas, lol. The ryvitas sound good, and the sultanas are just raisins right?
Jachut 487 Posted February 19, 2008 I love Ryvita's - especially with Peanut Butter and honey for breakfast, yum. sultanas are just little raisins - a different variety of grape. They're sweeter and softer, you know how in raisins the sugar's kind of cyrstallised? Sultanas dont really do that. They're bigger than currants though. aubrie 6 Posted February 19, 2008 Yup. My doctor said the same thing. NO SHAKES! the only time he allows them now is after a fill for 24 hours. Other than that he wants me on a regular diet, eating regular food. I'm not allowed Protein Bars either. He considers that a "snack" and he does not want me snacking. Period.
