A few more questions

Recommended Posts

Sorry if these are questions you hve answered a hundred times. I am just looking for a little more insight. :cheers2:

1. Do you feel full most of the time? How much can you eat to feel full? I know it depends on how tight your band is, but generally speaking?

2. I have been reading through threads that some people are only losing a few pounds a month. I am really confused about this. It seems with your stomach so small you should lose more, right? :confused2:

3. Generally, how long would it take to lose 75 lbs?

4. I have read you cannot drink caffeine or drink with your meals. Why is this?

5. My pre-op diet will be a 10 day liquid diet. What can you eat on a liquid diet? I eat alot of ice..can you eat ice?

Thanks so much ya'll.

It is not the same FULL feeling that you get currently or at Thanksgiving. Sometimes it is just to stop before you become uncomfortable with sliming or pains or pressure. I get hiccups about 3-5 minutes after eating when I eat to full.

2. I have been reading through threads that some people are only losing a few pounds a month. I am really confused about this. It seems with your stomach so small you should lose more, right? :confused2:

It is a TOOL -- the more you put into this the better results. Exercise - watching calories in - getting enough Protein - and getting enough Water - staying away from Sugar and all the bad foods - chips, crackers, candy, ice cream and such.

3. Generally, how long would it take to lose 75 lbs?

I lost 50 lbs 7 mos prior surgery eatting as if I had surgery and lost 46 lbs 7 mos after surgery - total 96 lbs. Depends on amount of weight you have to lose as with any diet/weight loss plan as well.

4. I have read you cannot drink caffeine or drink with your meals. Why is this?

If you drink with meal - you are pushing the food through the pouch which you lose the satisfied feeling and get hungry faster. Caffeine ?

5. My pre-op diet will be a 10 day liquid diet. What can you eat on a liquid diet? I eat alot of ice..can you eat ice?

ICE yes -- ICE CREAM no. Liquid; any of the liquid Protein drinks - Jello - broth - and such. You doctor will provide an outline of what he allows and disallows.

Good Luck!

1. Depends more on WHAT I eat than how much. I can eat about 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of food at a time (4 oz or so). If it is fibrous (like chicken salad) I can eat about 1-2 bites. If I eat something filling (like protein) then that lasts about 4 hours or so.

2. There are ways to go "around" the band and not lose weight. You can eat a lot of ice cream, Cookies, etc and they go right through the band. They have a lot of calories. Also, some people are slow losers. Exercise always helps the weight come off quicker.

3. Depends...I would think you can lose it in a year. It has been 5 months for me and I am down 60, but I know some who had surgery at the same time and are down 20 and some who are down 100. Everyone is different. I know that I do all that I can to lose about 3lbs a week.

4. I drink caffeine... As for driniking with your meals, you don't want to wash the food down thru the band, bc you won't get that full sensation. Also, sometimes if you are starting to get stuck, adding liquid on top makes it worse.

5. yes, ice is liquid. your dr can give you a list of liquids. Off the top of my head: clear Soup, Jello, sugar free popsicles...

Good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
