drinking fluids normally?

Recommended Posts

Hi - I am scheduled for my consultation at the end of this week, but I am curious to know now about drinking Water, juice etc... I know they say not to drink before during or after a meal (what if something gets stuck and you need a sip?) But beyond that can you drink normally throughout your day - I always have water or gatorade or propel or something on hand throughout the day - Is this type of drinking restricted? Im big on staying hydrated, Id hate to have to give up those long satisfying gulps of water when youre soooo thirsty!

Thanks! Angie

I drink right up until I eat and then don't drink during a meal or for an hour after. In between these times I drink up and try to get in at least 2-3 glasses of Water between meals. My mom still drinks a little during her meals but she has a stricture in her espohagus and has to in order to get the food down when she gets "stuck." It is best not to drink during meals because you won't stay full for as long.

Drinking after waiting the one hour after your meal is strongly encouraged after banding. I have 3 -16oz bottles of flavored Water ( like Propel) during the day and a cup or two of tea and a 10 oz glass of liquid Protein.

I feel well hydrated on that, but you could have more if you want, as long as you don;t drink with the meal or within the hour after a meal.

Calories count - so you will want to take the drinks with minimal calories. Journaling all food/liquids is the best way to stay on target.

I try to stay at 1400 cal or below.

As stated - sips generally; gulping is not recommended.

When I get stuck - and think a sip will help - it does not - it actually makes it worse. So I learned that lesson and don't even attempt now days.

I do keep a drink by my side ALL DAY long -- Crystal Light in a Gatorade 32 oz bottle. Minimim of 2 a day generally 3 or 4 of them is what I get in.

Good luck!

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
