Walking the pounds off for Breast Cancer

Recommended Posts

I have found a way for me to lose weight and it is a good cause. I am doing the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer on May 17th and 18th in Boston. It is a 30 mile walk over two days. I have been training for four weeks now and I walk 4-5 miles a day 4 times a week. I can feel my clothes getting looser and I am so psyched that this is a great way to exercise. Now if would just not be so cold out it would make walking a little easier!!!:)

That's a great way to combine the need for exercise and a way to make a difference. One of my best friends at work was diagnosed with breast cancer a couple of yrs ago. She had a double masectomy. She has had reconstructive ps, but she believes in the 3 day walk and has participated in it for a couple of years now.

Good job and way to make a difference for others.

great for you, you must be so happy with your results. The more you do it, the more happy you will be and live longer, and make the band work with you.

congrats. I think I will do the may walk here where I live. I'm also walking 20kms a weeks, and the change in my legs, etc and engery is great. I would do the band again in a heart beat.

good luck, you must be happy for your heath

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
