Has anyone used Dr. Jose Rodriguez

Recommended Posts

I'm getting my surgery done in Mexico, and wondering if anyone has used Dr. Rodriguez before? How was your experience? Did you have any complications getting fills at home, etc?

Any info would be great - from those who have had the surgery done by him!

Thanks! :)

You can do a search and come up with info im sure.

As for fills at home the best thing i can tell you is to have after care set up BEFORE you have surgery . It can be a little difficult ( not impossible) to get a doc to take pts who have been banded in Mexico . But there r more in more in the states willing to do it now.

So make sure after care is set up before hand.

you might want to check out this thread, it has a lot of good, useful info regarding mexican docs

I went with Dr. Rodriguez for my band. I was banded on 1/18/08. I was very impressed with him and I had a great experience. I have not had any luck finding any local doctors (in my area) but I'm only 3 hours away from Mexico so I might just have to make the drive. Dr. Rodriguez has a yahoo group that has a list of doctors that will do a fill in the US. You might want to check it out.

That is why its suggested to find someone before going . Also some US docs require certain medical records or ALL medical records from Mexico , you will need to know what to get from mexico before going .

Even if its a fill center, (Which im not a huge fan of ) Some of them are better than others so you need to check them out before going to them .

I agree with what your saying but I did not stress about it because I live so close to Mexico (2 1/2 to 3 hour drive). So it's not that big of a deal to me to make the drive if I couldn't find anyone closer. However, for someone that is not that close then it would be good to find the doctor in advance.

Yes totally , I Just responded to your other post.

This is something that a lot of people do not think of, is finding a fill doc , or they assume it will be easy to find one. Sometimes docs will tell them " You will have no problem finding someone in your area " so they do not even look before being banded , it is a problem , or can be a problem .

I think the closer you live to the border, such as those of us in Texas the "easier" It can be .

I too was banded by Dr Rod in May 2007. I had an absolutely wonderful experience. Dr. Rod does give you all the medical documents, band information, and so forth that you may need at a later date.

Since I live in a the southwest, I haven't had a problem with finding local care. It isn't too expensive for me to return to Dr. Rod if further care is needed. I adored the staff, facilities, and locals there.

My experience was so positive that my hubby was banded in July 2007.

I wish you much luck and good health on your adventure. No matter where you choice to go, be smart and get all your research done. Feel free to PM if you have any specific questions luckylinds.

Much respect from AZ.

Dr. Rod from Acuna Mexico. His full name is Dr. Jose Rodriguez. He and his assistant are working from the new facility too.

For myself, going to mexico was the right decision. Dr. Rod saved my life! This is honestly how I feel.

My mom and I are going into have the surgery next Thursday (28th). I've heard only great things about him, I'm looking forward to it!

Any tips from you bandsters to make the surgery experience smooth, and thing you wish you had done differently?

Congrates and best wishes to you. What I would differently... Bring a sports bra! My rep forgot to mention this... and of course I had other things on my mind. Don't forget your chapstick and slippers. I was up and walking shortly after. When I woke up, I actually had to check that I did have the procedure done (it was of course). When you first get up... slow and steady... hubby got up too fast and was spinning.... slow and easy to incline and loads of walking.

Brenda - I went through Belite (with Jessica) and it has been a great experience. She's answered her phone every time I phone, and always answers her emails quickly. She's provided me with tons of great info and answers to my questions. She's really put any concerns I had at ease, and while the whole process isn't complete yet, so far so good.

Please don't pay any attention to skinny's comments, this person has posted the same negative comments on other threads. Really, you must call around and find out for your self, there are a lot of misinformed fear mongers on this site!

Good Luck, and thanks to everyone for the tips, amamastime - chapstick, I never would have thought of that, and yet, I always need it! Thanks again, best of luck to everyone!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
