mae 0 Posted February 16, 2008 :tongue:Please let me know of the length of your hospital stay? How long in bed before going back to an office job? Is there any lifting restrictions? I take care of my granddaughter twice a week, Lily weighs 12 lbs now? Thank you:smile2:
*susan* 1,709 Posted February 16, 2008 My surgeon actually keeps us overnight, but from what I have seen on here, he is one of the few that does. Everyone is different, but I would allow at least a week of recovery time before going back to work. As for the lifting, it has been quite a long time now, but if I remember correctly, I was limited to five pounds for a month until my port was healed well. kbinaz 0 Posted February 17, 2008 I stayed for about 8 hours post-op. It depended on health issues and I had very few. Those with diabetes, heart issues etc. had to stay overnight. I only took pain meds for days 1 and 2. Could have gone back to an office job at 1 week. I was told to lift no more than 10 pounds for the first two months but 'forgot' a few times, lifted my 30 pound grandson once and felt it the next day in my port area but had no long-lasting repurcussions. mae 0 Posted February 17, 2008 Thanks to all of you for your information on the concerns I have to deal with soon. I am the primary babysitter of Lily and will have to be relived of my duties for a couple months. She will be at least 15 to 20 lbs. by time of my surgery. I have to do this 1st for myself but will hate to not be able to be with her because of the lifting issue. Thanks all again
AlysonRR 0 Posted February 17, 2008 My doctor wanted me to avoid lifting more than 5 pounds immediately after surgery. At a post-op follow up three weeks later he said I could increase that to 15 pounds. I'd talk to your doctor about your situation and find out his/her opinion.
