Food questions...

Is it only the texture of the food that you have to look out for?? Do spices/acidity etc. matter? What about fried foods? I'm a cajun and we eat spicy food...lol

salad? ? A nice salad is one of my very favorite foods to eat...I've read that some people have a hard time with lettuce....I don't get that. I've read where people say foods get "stuck"...stuck where? and why??

Right after I was banded acidity really bothered me. I couldn't do juices of any kind, and spicy food made me get really tight. Now none of that stuff bothers me. I can't eat the breading on the General Tso's chicken anymore, which makes me sad. You may have to take it easy on the spices right after, but most of us don't have trouble.

The stuck feeling is kind of hard to explain. It feels like there is food stuck in your throat but you can stil breath (the first time it happened I was pretty panicky and thought I couldn't breath- but it's down a different pipe). It feels like you swollowed a golf ball and it's sitting right in your throat. Usually the esophogas starts to spasm and that hurts like heck. It's trying to move the food down into the stomach but the band is blocking it. Then you start to get tons of spit...again the body is trying to get the food down into the stomach. You'll recognize it when it happens, believe me.

hopefull, unfortunately you can't do to much about it. If you want to throw it up (which for possible slippage is not a good idea) the best thing for me is to drink something. If you do though, make sure you have something to throw up in fast!!!!! (Like microseconds). If it is not to severe it is best for you to just play the waiting game.

Hi Tinkerbell!

I love spicy foods too. Right after I was banded, I was able to tolerate them better, now I try to not have things so spicy hot... funny - really spicy hot things make me nauseated. ??? no idea why.

Lettuce (salad) is no problem for me. Just chew it well. The skin on tomato's may gt a little sticky going through the stoma, but again - chew well!

Who is your surgeon? And when were you banded?

I've had no problems with spicy food at all. As long as the food goes down, my Iron stomach can tolerate just about anything.

Fried foods are actually very easy for me to eat. Which is why I have to try to avoid them, for the most part. Loads of calories, very little nutrition, and a waste of effort. That was hard getting used to and I can't say I succeed all the time, but I try.

I don't do french fries, talking about hung chow, whew, worst pb I've had, don't know if that was such a bad thing, lol. My biggest problem is not what I eat, but either not chewing enough or taking too big a bite. I had a terrible time with an olive one day, right there with the french fry incident, even spit up blood afterwards. You would think after three months I would be out of the habit of popping something in my mouth and giving it a few chews then swallowing. As soon as I swalled I knew I was in for it, not only the golf ball effect, but pbd for 20 minutes. I have found if I don't get famished between meals I have a lot less problems.

Had my second fill yesterday, this afternoon will be interesting, here comes the chili.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
