Hello...my name is Julie and I am scheduled for surgery this Tuesday. I was just told by the husband of-one-who-has-been-banded that during the surgery that instead of being on a table you are actually laying on a bean bag. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I don't mind being stark but on a bean bag????? Might be just a tad uncomfortable? Can anyone help me with this?

Pix..I sure hope you are right...but he did not sound like he was yanking my chain. It is nice to hear that you didn't have to do this! Thank you for telling me.

I went in on a table and woke up on a table. If they transferred me to a bean bag sometime while I was asleep - first of all, I didn't know it, and second, I'll bet most of the surgical assistants now have to go visit the chiropractor! LOL

I agree - I think he was teasing.

Although....after seeing a diagram of where the surgeon stands while doing a lap band procedure - I did spring for a bikini wax prior to my surgery! ;-)

I am not sure which one is worse....the bean bag or the wax!!!!!!!

By the way it was my brother in law that told me that. I have a call into his wife to see what she has to say about it!!!!!....I'll let you know what she says!

In the OR we sometimes use a "bean bag" when positioning warrants its use.

I have only used it during shoulder arthroscopies.

The bean bag is still atop the OR table. It is covered with sheets or blankets and your amrs, legs, ankles, would be padded after you went to sleep.< /p>

the bean bag is then molded into shape(to secure the pt) and the air is taken out of the bag to make it stiff(remember you are padded).

I've never seen it used for lap procedures but that doesn't mean your Doctor won't use it.

Each surgeon tailors his/her preferences according to their own experiences and needs.

EVERY effort is made before your surgery begins to assure your comfort(even when you are asleep) with the use of pillows, blankets, gel rolls, foam etc.

Hey Guys~

This is Julies Sister in law .... here is a link to show the postion you will be in ... LAP-BAND: Surgery Technique

In this picture , the table is set at a 30 degree angle so the Dr can stand in between your thighs... the bean bag can be used to keep the pt from slipping off the table and may not be used anymore.

Good luck! It's all worth it!

Hey Kimmie.....

Hope all is well! Thank you for clearing that up for me.......I had visions of being on a real bean bag as-I-know-it:embaressed_smile:! If I am sound asleep I don't much care what they do!!!!...I was worried about being embarrassed. Love you!

Yup, it's true. I was very awake when they transferred me to the OR table. This very large "bean bag" lies under your butt, so your pelvis is higher than the rest of your body. I can't say that it was comfortable, but I was only awake for about five minutes before they put me under. It was really no biggie. Don't sweat it.

Hope this helps!

I remember them transfering me to the OR table but I wasn't on any bean bag type thing...if they used it, they put it in place after I was knocked out.

All I can say is I'm glad I didn't see the way we're positioned during surgery beforehand.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
