I am in the stage 2 and already i can notice that i can drink more and possibly eat more.. i'm not; but i have had some runny mashed potatoes and ckn salad. on my list it say its ok but i dont want to eat too much. or gulp too much Water. i guess i'm healing well. i've lost 12.2 llbs but i'm getting ready to start so i know i'm retaining water now. Is anyone going through this rigth now? banded on feb 5th. i think i'm getting in 50 g of Protein and about 500-600 calories. just wanted to check in for some feed back. i try to eat slower and drink slower but not having any difficulty. i'm not going over my portion size with food. I guess i'm being paranoid. Just want to make sure i'm doing ok...

thanks

M.

Hi Michelle my fellow Mardi Gras bandster..

Yes, I'm in the same boat as you! We are healing and the swelling is going down. Because we are not "filled" our little pouches can tolerate increased volumes of food. I had my first post op appt yesterday and talked to my doc about this exact topic. He said we will notice the ability to take in more volume but should still have some "slight" restriction. After surgery I was only able to get down 2 oz of liquid, now I can get down 4-6. He kept reiterating that we are continuing to heal and to "stick to the program" which is eat slowly, stick to the outlined diet, and listen to our bodies. It sounds like you are doing everything perfectly!! Oh..I also told my doc I was starting to feel hungry and he said "yes, you will feel hungry, but get in the required Protein and you will be fine". So, I guess the bottom line is stick to the program!! I know that I plan on ramping up my exercise this week which should help keep the scale going in the right direction.

Again Michelle, you are doing awesome!! Keep it up!!

Amy

Hmm. I can't eat much, but I can drink to my heart's content. That's a little scary now that I hear you all saying you couldn't even take in fluid! LOL

My doctor said to drink all through out the day to get in the required fluids. He told me not to drink with meals so to maintain the full feeling longer of my foods. He also as well as the nutritionist stated not to drink 45-1hour before and after a meal.It is rough. The otherday I thought I could handle a little rice and I guess the first few bites and chews were tiny but than the others got bigger and they all caught up at my stomach inlet and Yawzzza:eek:I felt a big pain and didn't know whether to drink Water and vomit it up or drink a few sips of water and wait for it to go down. i waited with the water but it was uncomfortable. I will never do that again , and I wasn't supposed to have rice either.I'm on mushies and on Monday I start foods.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
