The appointment went great! She is young and friendly and very easy to talk to. We had a good time just chatting. She had a form of questions she was filling out. Sort of the expected questions: Have you researched the surgery, What do you expect to change in your life after, do you know what to expect post op, Are you an emotional eater, Do you have a support system (family and friends), History of mental/psych issues, how does being overweight affect you now, why do you want the surgery. It was all really easy and actually nice to talk about. I also asked for her opinion on how to discuss this with my children.

She has been losing weight herself so she totally understands the struggle to be heavy and to lose so that is nice. At the end she told me that she would send the paperwork recommending me as a good candidate (so I know she is approving me!:) ) by the end of next week. She said she hates having paperwork pile up and tries to get it all turned around within a week. So I would think at the very latest yours would be at the office by a week from Monday.

So it was no big deal and I really liked her. You will be fine.

Now I see Dr T for my one on one tomorrow. Any idea what I can expect from that? Will he be poking at my fat rolls?

Oh he is wonderful you will love him. He asks some basic questions like your family health history, your health history and asks about your eating habits so he can establish if you can let the sweets go since "you can eat around your band". He does a physical you know listening to your heart, bowel sounds, etc. Don't worry no pelvic exam, but it was fine and he has a great bed side manner. I cant wait until I get over this last hurddle and finally I may see the finish line. Lol I am so happy to have met you and all the others on this thread. I will keep you posted on my progress and you please do the same.

Wasn't she great?! I am thinking maybe I should get some therapy just cause she was great to talk to! LOL

Saw Dr. T today and he really is all that people have said. I had a ton of questions and he answered each one and was really positive and personable. That means a lot to me. I need a dr that has good bedside manner. He made DH and I feel really comfortable.

He hadn't heard of Aetna's 3 mo. program that I am doing so I showed him the information and he thought it was great. I gave them a copy at the front desk so they can look into it and update their materials. He really felt like I won't have a problem being approved.

I have an appt to see him in 2 months. I will be almost at the end of my 90 days for Aetna at that point.

So now I just diet and exercise and keep my appointments with my PCP and with the nutritionist and hope I can be approved and scheduled for late summer.

I officially started my diet today. I am having a Protein Shake for Breakfast. Maybe another one for a snack. I had a Slim Fast today for snack but it has too many carbs. I need to go and get the low carb version.

I figure this will help me get used to the Protein Shakes and the liquid diet!

I have a month of dinner menus ready of South Beach/Low Carb recipes.

lunch is where I always have a problem. I usually have a salad or leftovers.

So far today I am getting plenty of exercise running back and forth to the bathroom! I have to PEE! Too much Water and shakes.< /p>

WDW, just curious what type of shakes you're making/drinking. One of Dr. T's seminars was about the hidden calories in smoothies. Instant Breakfast with low fat milk is a great way to get in extra Protein too.

Personally, I hate milk, so I make my shakes without milk. I also use a product called New-Whey that is 42grms of Liquid Protein that comes in a vial type container and you just drink it down.

Good luck on your journey!

Weird. I swear that I responded to this yesterday. No idea what happened to my post!

Anyway, I am using the Weight and Inches Diet Shakes that Dr. Clark sells at the Center for Metabolic Health. They are 29g protein, 200 cal, 3g fat and 15g carb. I also bought some High Protein Slim Fast for Snacks which is 15g protein. I have cans of the regular Slim Fast but it is really high in carbs.

Where do you get your protein stuff/shakes around here? Do I need to go to GNC?

Keam, I'm almost 8 months out, and I've dropped 72 lbs. I have met Dr. T's goal for the year (he said I'm having bypass results) I am an obsessive exerciser, and he thinks that is probably why I'm losing so fast. But my personal goal is about 40 more lbs. If I lose 20-30 I will be happy, but would love to lose 40 more. Actually if I didnt lose another lb, it would still all be worth it. I'm really comfortable where I am. I've gone from a size 22 to a size 14, and medium shirts. I started this at 254, and now weight 182. My ultimate goal is 140-145. 145 would be 37 more lbs. I'm losing at a pretty slow rate now, about 1 lb per week. I increased my exercise more, so this past 6 weeks I lost 12 lbs. So that's about 2 lbs per week. But.. overall, I feel great. I run 3 miles about 3-4 times per week, and ride my bike, and do aerobics. I try to add in weight training about 2 times per week, but sometimes I slack on that part. I always do my cardio, EVERY DAY! I asked Dr. T if he thinks I'll make my personal goal, and he said he thinks I'll pass it by far having dropped what I have in under 8 months. He said I really haven't hit a plateau yet or stopped losing. Even though it's been a slow loss for the last few months, I never really stopped losing. I'm just going to keep on trudging along. :-)

I have plateued at 23lbs and Im about 6 weeks post op. I lost really quickly but I keep bouncing around +/- a lb or so since Ive been eating food. I know I havent been making 100% fabulous food choices BUT Ive been staying within 1200 calories a day and working out 2-3 times a week at least. Im a bit frustrated but Im not going to let it get me down. This week has been especially bad because its a "woman's" week if you get my drift. I basically want to eat everything in sight--preferably deep fried and smothered in chocolate LOL I havent given in much although I did chow on a hot dog last night for dinner!!

I need someone to help keep me motivated. I think we should plan a HR coffee date or something if we live close enough! I think it would be fun to bring our support group to a more personal level... what do you guys think?

Erin, don't get discouraged. The scale will move again. I had very slow losses as well. The 1200 calorie intake is fine. You don't even have a fill yet. Wait until you get your fills, and you'll be controlled more. I actually didn't get full restriction for almost 7 months. It took me alot of fills to get there. I'm at 8.4cc in my band. I had a 5cc fill my first fill, and still had no restriction. at my 6 month review with Dr. T, he said I've done most of it on my own, and that my band is not at restriction. He said in the xray's it shows very open. Figures I would be one of those people that it takes that much fill to get to restriction. It was very frustrating for me.

You will get there!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
