LindaTatu, I lost your phone number. I wanted you to look up something in the book for me, Borders was out of it. I get bad gas everytime I eat and I am wondering if it is just because I switched to more solid food?

also, I think I might not be chewing or else I am eating too fast, as I get a lot of discomfort in my chest, I guess it will teach me to slow down.

Are you going to walk on Saturday?, I will be there. I hope Val and Nicki will come too.

Sounds like I need to add it to my agenda! I made out like a bandit last year when they did this. Thanks for the heads up.

I am already into clothes that did not fit me two weeks ago!

See you at the park.

Thanks for the info, I am eating too fast I think, as you say. May go back to liquids today. It is so uncomfortable when it happens.

I am so frustrated that I keep calling BGH and there is still NO seminar scheduled yet.

I just recently had a sleep study done, so glad I did. It confirmed I do have sleep apnea & have "episodes" or wake up 39x an hour. It was such a relief to understand why I'm so tired all the time and for people to not think I was making it up when I say that I never sleep. Also just had the psych evaluation w/Dr Lelito yday. That was kind of odd. Had to answer 371 true or false questions. It'll be interesting to get those results too.

Hopefully this will help speed up the process. I am really trying to stay focused on cutting out all the junk food from my diet & start eating regular meals. I'm just feeling kind of discouraged since I still havent even gotten in to the clinic yet.

Dear Daniell, I also have sleep apnea and am on the machine, but it 36_1_67.gif doesn't help me at all i'm still tiredl the m.d. told me 10% of people with sleep apnea are still tired, and I was one of those unfortunates. I talked to others who say they feel great and i hope you do too. it took me 11 months from start to surgery, I hope they are moving quicker now. I know the frustration you are feeling. Keep me posted.

daniellabee, I had a sleep study done and use a cpap machine for years and I feel so much better!!!! I take it everywhere, on overnight trips and vacations. I wish I had one of the smaller new models but I am so much more energetic and sleep wonderful. Last month I had an ECD (or something) under anesthesia and the doctor told me I stopped breathing during the test. I don't love the mask but I love what the machine does for me (and so does my husband as there is no snoring).

And on the lighter side if your married.......he knows when I have my mask on it means I am not in the mood LOL!! Hey we have to laugh or this process would wear us down!

It has gotten faster, mine was only 5-6 months from start to surgery. Daniella, it helps to vent here, that is what I did for months as I waited.

I am having trouble with the semisoft foods and may go back to liquids or at least thick liquids. I have tried to eat fish for Protein for two days and have had a lot of trouble. I tried again and it just came back up and so I hope I have learned my lesson. I just fed what is left of it to the dog so I am not tempted. It is hard to kick this overeating thing I guess.

So everyone, remind me to go slowly.

Judy, I am starting to fall into the overeating habits too. Youre right it is hard. I have some books that help address that. As everyone tells us the band is a tool. We need to be able to change our heads too. I am counting on the unpleasant side effects of overeating or eating the wrong things to help me break the habit but I also am strongly considering going back to counseling with someone who specializes in food issues. No one can say we are taking the easy way out!

Linda, the side effects are unpleasant!! You will receive a warning from your body. I will let you know in a few days if I am listening to the warning, LOL.

I am also considering counseling for it, Dr. Lelito does it, I was just not sure if I warmed up to him or not, but he was very direct and helpful in his evaluation. Do you know anyone else who counsels for food issues?

Judy I reccommend Mary Jo Parker. She is PHD with an office on Wehrle Drive by Transit 634-0906. I liked her but wasn't ready to do what she suggested. I am going back. If I liked her it is a good endorsement. I am hard to please in this instance. I believe she is almost strictly food issues.

Linda, I forgot you asked about Protein. I bought Designer protein in vanilla and chocolate at Vitamin Shoppe on Walden Avenue. this was a whey protein, but they also had a whey/soy combo, but I was not sure if it would give me gas, so I got just the Whey. It was $13.00 per can, that will last me quite a while. It is good, I mix it with everything, milk, coffee, yogurt, Water, it blends well with everything. I also bought benefiber, just in case and I mix that with everything too. I have also been adding bananas and Peanut Butter to the chocolate protein. that brand has a great flavor, I was worried because usually Protein Drinks taste gross, to me at least.

It is what I will have for dinner since I can not trust myself with food, LOL.

I am so glad that I have you guys to turn to. That is exactly what is happening to me. I was not prepared for how small the amount of food is that can be eaten so soon after the placement of the band. I should know better because I have the advantage of learning from you. I have to slow down, I was so miserable tonight and I threw up which I did not want to do.

I am so happy that I did this though.

Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday.

Daniellabee,

I saw Dr Lelito on the 24th and had to take the same 370 question test....waaay too long and redundant!

I walked in the office with one shoe one and one off because the strap broke on the drive there and I did'nt have a replacement pair ..plus my hair was a little disshoveled from the rain so I was lookin a hot mess! lol

I go back the 8/14 to get my results.... hopefully I wont seem too *crazy* to him.

Judy,

The Designer vanilla Protein whey is pretty good.. I use it blended with bananas, strawberries and a packet of carnation instant Breakfast. I'll have to try the cholcolate one with penut butter and bananas...sounds good!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
