Dr. Aaron Hoffman - Lap Band done in Buffalo, NY (Dr. Hoffman)

Recommended Posts

Hiya, i happened to stumble upon this thread and read for the first 22 pages. Then I realized it was 114 pages and thought OMG i can't do this! it's 1 am already! lol.

Anwways. I'm from the buffalo area also, I'm in Riverside and I just started my adventure in WLS and I'm looking to make some WLS friends.

My dr has recommended the Lapband over gastric bypass. And I've gotten in touch with Dr. Viglianco's office. I'm waiting on my doctors approval letter and a blood test to be sent to them in order to get my first appointment.

I've got alot of questions and I'd love to talk first hand with someone who has BTDT with the lapband.

If anyone is intrested in being a mentor and helping me in this journey I would LOVE to talk to you.

My email is magg0607@yahoo.com Please email me and we can talk!

thanks for reading and hopefully i'll get to know some of you soon!

Michelle

I saw Dr. hoffman today...boy this was the quickest i was ever out of there. my appt was at 3 pm, got there at 230pm and was on my way out by 3:05 pm. they gave me a medium fill. that was only my second fill and next tuesday will be my 1yr anniversary of being banded.

veronica

Please forgive me...I'm not banded but I'm looking into the pros and cons and learning all that I can about banding vs. bypass. So, what IS a fill? The above post sounds like a stop by a gas station.

I had a hard time last week eating, i think i had something stuck cause it was really tough. but i made it through. i was just worried cause i purged a few times and i know thats not good. good to hear everyone is doing good.

hi guys! haven't been on in a long time took a couple vacations, visited my daughter and grandchildren in georgia and yakity yak yak......any way, during my vacation, i was plagued by horrible heart burn and could hardly eat anything, i went to hoffman last tues. and he says my band may have slipped and i have to go for a barrium swallow in 4 weeks. I have lost 83 lbs and the hoff says when you lose that much that the band can slip cause your stomach also loses weight. OMG, i am so scared, cause he said if it is so, i will have to have another surg!!!! also, all of a sudden the last two days i can eat endless amounts of food and that is another sign of a slipped band cause it slips downward and your pouch is much larger..anyone ever have a slippe band or know anyone with one, please let me know, i am terrified. I have 5.8 cc in my band now, when i hear what you all have it seems like alot, but the doc says between 5-7 cc is normal for maintanance. thanx for listening vicki

vicki,

my last fill was the end of march and it was right away but i thought i would wait and see what happened. big mistake! it was bad this weekend that i could only eat 2 bites of food and i was full. big lesson to learn you dont lose weight faster if you are too tight...in fact it prob was slower...so i learned my lesson

val, thanks for responding. Actually, i too thought I was just too tight, but I was surprised to hear the Hoff say he thinks my band slipped, I pray it is only too much fill. I wonder why he didn't just take a little out to see? I am glad you are doing well, I will let you know what he says. I think my appt is june 3.

Vicki,

They think you have a slipped band and there making you wait til June 3rd? That doesnt sound right. Why arent they checking to put your mind at ease?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
