Dr. Aaron Hoffman - Lap Band done in Buffalo, NY (Dr. Hoffman)

Recommended Posts

Do you think you see yourself as bigger or smaller than you are? I never wore tight clothes and so I think I fooled myself into thinking I wasn't as heavy as "those" girls. Well I passed along my too big clothes to a volunteer of mine and she came in today wearing them. I was horrified! There is no way they could have looked like that on me. What a wake up call. Over the next months as I (hopefully) lose weight she will serve as a visual of the old me, kind of like a walking before photo, and be a reminder to keep faithful to the band.

11 days and counting!:w00t:

Linda, yes, my surgery date is 11/11 with Posner. I guess I will keep on taking the Vitamins. Maybe I have something else going on causing the hot flashes..

I didn't loose my 5 % but I did loose most of it and he seemed pleased enough. I only need to loose 60 - 65 lbs in all so maybe thats why he let it slide.

I know that your surgery is on the 10th and I wish you alot of luck. I'm sure it will be fine. I know Margie MM is happy as a lark that she had it done w/o much discomfort at all. She has really been my rock lately and the last support meeting helped alot too or I think I would have chickened out already.

My surgery is on the 13th. Mine is Columbus Day (celebrated) and yours is Veterns Day. Through which website do you correspond with Margie or do you talk to her through her personal email? She is a very positive person.

oops, I knew that is was the 13th.. just a slip of the old brain I guess.. I talk to Margie thru her personal e-mail.. she is a great support and thankfully a positive person. Some day we will meet.. Maybe after our surgeries we can get together. Maybe we can talk her into coming to a support meeting and make a day of it.

I have a question. Should I take a book or something to do to the hospital or will I have no time and should I take pajamas or will I leave the gown on? Thanks

I took my own PJs for both days, I changed right after surgery into a gown like thing I brought and then the next day I had regular pjs on. I think it is a personal decision. I just do what I can to feel good when I go to the hospital. I believe I brought books, but I did not really read if I recall. I walked a lot, slept a lot. The second day he sent me home before noon. If I had been there all day I would have wanted a book.

I was very tired because they woke me every four hours, and they woke my room mate every four hours which woke me up again, so I was always tired. And the drugs are good anyway, so I wanted to maximize the sleep.< /p>

I am so glad we have this thread to talk with others in the same WLS program at Buffalo General. I have been surfing Lapbandtalk, especially surgury day stories and there are bandsters who arrive at the hospital or OP Clinic at 1pm and are out the door by 5pm! And are sent home on full liquids. Wow, we may all be in this club together but how different our experiences can be.

Linda, to tell you the truth, I am glad they keep us for 1 day and half or two. I think its safer and just in case a complication arises, the team is readily available for us. I am so glad I decided on the band instead of the bypass !!!! I don't think I would have gone thru with it. too many more complications can happen. Its ok that it takes longer to loose. Its safer !!

thanks

I was going to say I could have gone home the first day, and then I remembered I had cardiac issues and had to have an EKG at midnight. So I am REALLY glad I did not go home. I was going to ask him for a second day so I could be waited on (I am alone at home) but I felt so great the next day I was happy to go. The cardiac problems were nothing, just blips because I had the dry heaves.

Shar, I'm glad you decided on Lapband too.

I just came from my PCP who did my medical clearance. I also got a flu shot so that was a bonus. My Psychitrist is retiring and I don't care for my endocrinologist so I asked if my PCP would take over both (the psych is just for refills of cymbalta) and he said yes. When I left he said "well I guess I will be seeing more of you." I said "no, you will be seeing less of me, but more frequently" LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
