Hey ladies!!

My port site seems to be the worst pain incision wise; the others don't even hurt--I presume this is normal.

Speaking of normal...is it normal for my left shoulder/collarbone area to still ache? I'm thinking it's referred pain from being pulled in a bazillion ways...as well as gas still in there. It hurts when I cough or breathe very deeply...I'm seeing Dr. Hoffman on Tuesday but I'm such a hypochondriac...

Also, there's a bruise under my port incision...weird?

Oh--and I slept on my stomach for the first time last night, I had no choice...my neck hurt so badly it was the only comfy place! That won't mess up anything will it?

bloom, This is normal pain from the gas, and it can last for a couple weeks, but usually gets gradulally better. I sympathise with you cause I think that pain was worse than the incisions. I also had a bruise under the port, and still after 3 months have tenderness at the port site. My port really protrudes does anyone elses? good luck bloom, someone told me gas x helps with the pain and moving around will help the gas move to an exit if you know what i mean lol.....

I did experience everything you are. the shoulder pain from the gas that they use to expand the opening for surgery went on for a few weeks, but it did get better. The abdominal gas (ie, fart) seems to stay with you but gets better, gas-x should help that type of gas. I used soft rolaids. I had a bruise the size of a baseball, I still have a slight shadow there. My port hurt for a while, and as you said it was really the only pain I had. I slept on my stomach right away when I came home. Occasionally I had to shift to get the weight off of it. It is better now. I was short of breath for about two weeks after surgery. I was worried too but it went away, probably anesthesia effect.

The prognosis?-- You WILL live to be SKINNY!!!

Band, my port sticks out a little. Probably will stick out more when I lose a little more weight. I think there is a low profile port that they can put in down the road (why not do it in the beggining one might wonder).

Most of the bandsters I have seen have "outies" with regards to ports (protruding).

Okay...I feel much better, thanks Judy/band/etc. !

Now if my eye would stop twitching (I doubt this has anything to do with anything but being tired)...

Skinny ahoy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
