Bugs, I would call in a week. Have you been to a seminar yet? If not it does not appear that there is one scheduled yet, so you may not hear for a while. I think 859-1168 is where you call to see if you have everything in and to see when there will be a new seminar.

Hi I did hear from the clinic back a few weeks ago. I called and left a message and a girl, I think her name was Georgia, called and said, that I would be in the next seminar, but they did not have a date set up yet. If I hear anything else I will be sure to let you know. Debbie

I am so mad and frustrated I could scream. As soon as I joined the program and sent in my application I have done research on what to do after I get banded. For months I have been trying to eat slowly and chew, chew, chew and I do not drink with meals or the suggessted 1/2 before or 1 hour after. I want to form good habits so when I am finally banded it might be easier.

I went to the May 1st seminar where it was mentioned to come in and get weighed as soon as possible, even before the first appointment. I did that, bought the SB book and immersed myself in the program. As a diabetic I did not feel great and always had stomach problems. Reading the book gave me some excellent nutrition advice. I lost my cravings and only desire food offered on the program. I went on the program and immediately felt great. When I finally had my 3 hr blitz on June 24th I had lost so much weight that I was .1 above the limit for my BMI. I was warned not to lose any more weight. At my July 22nd dietician appointment I had lost more weight. Jeanne advised me to add more carbs to my diet. I actually took my home scale to the appointment and compared it to the clinic scale so I could stay on track and I have a big note on my mirror that says what I need to weigh on August 21st when I have my doctors appointment. I weighed myself yesterday and I lost 2 more pounds. This morning I was thinking of what I could eat such as Pasta, potatoes etc and I got mad and thats the reason for this email.

The purpose of the band is to loose weight but it is just a tool and you have to do your part, eating properly etc. I don't want to start eating more, or the wrong foods. I want my stomach to stay used to small amounts. I had some extra food yesterday and immediately my stomach hurt and my sugar was up. I still have three 1/2 weeks. I have to gain 5 lbs. Who knew gaining weight on purpose could be so stressful. I know I need to have a certain BMI to be approved for insurance so I will do it even if it makes me sick. Does anyone know if after the doctors appointment when I get weighed and insurance submitted does it matter if I loose or gain weight before surgery?

I know some of you are saying boohoo she is loosing to much weight. I am not bragging! Thanks for listening.

Linda, do you have other comorbidities, such as hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol or sleep apnea? This will lower the allowed BMI to 35. I think even arthritis is considered a comorbidity.

The other thing is, we were told that you could weigh in before the 3 hour appointment and then your weight loss would be part of the required 5% that some insurance requires.

Try not to stress too much, each person you talk to at the clinic has a different take on what the "rules" are. At my final weigh in I was told that my insurance would not cover my surgery, which I had a week later and it was covered. Just continue the process, stay healthy. Slouch when they take your height, that will raise your BMI, LOL. Wear a lot of clothes and put rolls of quarters in your pockets if you need to.

We can talk more on Saturday, but in the meantime, collect documentation on any co-morbidities you may have and get a firm list from your insurance as far as their requirements. Many insurances have different requirements.

Take care.

Hey, all!!! I'm home for the weekend...I was supposed to have my Barbara appt. last month but I messed up my weekends so I had to reschedule to this morning but they didn't have any appointments...but I was able to weigh in---40 lbs. gone of the 50 lbs. required to get my BMI down to a safe surgical level! So excited!!!

Judy, so psyched for you and your band/weight loss, etc.! You seem to be having the issues that I'm preparing myself for, so I'm glad you're talking about them, thanks!

My appointment with Dr. Hoffman is the 19th, I think it's one of his first days back from his boards or whatever.

Dr. Forbes is leaving? How come and where is she going?

Bloom, congratulations!! yes, I am the test case for bad behavior, or at least the only one who foolishly admits to it.

It is not bad, but once you get that slight feeling of fullness, stop, and put down that fork. The next bite will cause you considerable discomfort! I have been able to eat in restaurants and socialize with friends, because I do not want to make a fool of myself and eat slowly and heed all warnings from my band. I was going to try a glass of wine, but did not do so. Will probably test the waters for alcohol over Labor day weekend as I will be camping with friends and not driving. I am not a big drinker anyway, but I do miss having one or two.

Your head still wants to overeat, but it will cause instant pain. So I am hoping that the head will learn not to make the body hurt.

As far as post surgical pain, I had virtually none. My "innards" have never felt pain, and minimal from the surgical spots. If I flop on my port during the night it hurts, but as the swelling goes down it seems to happen less. I have my nieces convinced that it is an alien ready to hatch.

OK, hope I do not offend anyone, but because of the port do you have to always be on top for sex, LOL?

BandofGold, I asked Jeanne, the nutritionist the same thing. I told her I wasn't get enough liquid. She basicly said to drink all the other times of the day. So my whole day is drink, pee, eat, drink pea, eat.

23_33_7.gif I hear ya lindatatu, it does seem like my days are structures around eating, drinking, and peeing, i feel dehydrated or saturated.........

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
