Dr. Aaron Hoffman - Lap Band done in Buffalo, NY (Dr. Hoffman)

Recommended Posts

hey all, it been a while since i've been able to post. I started school and my life has been a never ending cycle of craziness. had my sleep study and didn't turn out the way i'd hoped, apparently i have sleep apnea, BUMMER! So this past friday i went for my follow up appointment and it was retched!! I literally slept for 45 min. i could not sleep at all the mask was HUGE and eveytime i would fall asleep my mouth would open and then i'd feel like i was choking. I know, I know, it takes some getting used to. i've lost 20 lbs so far on the SB and it really works if you can follow the plan. I must admit i did cheat a little nothing crazy but i couldn't help myself, i had half of a half of a brownie. I still am losing. so it goes to show you as long as your master plan is in effect you can waiver on occasion as long as its in control. the only problem i'm having is getting a good exercise routine. My schedule is jammed pact i need help!!!!! i try to fit in what i can when i can but its soo not enough, any suggestions???

thanks for listening

kisha

btw my appointment with dr hoffman is tomorrow i'm sooo nervous.

Do I need to have my bloodwork done before I see Dr Hoffman? I've been so busy and I don't drive so I wanted to ask.

Bugs, if your talking about the first appointment with the doctor prior to surgery, I think all I had was a copy of my the most recent bloodwork from my primary MD. If the clinic wants a more recent one, they will give you a script for it.

thats ok... if you happen to have an appointment with your primary, then you can get bloodwork done but if not, the clinic will give you a script for it if they need it. You can always call the office and ask Leslie if its necessary at the point that you are now. She'll tell you or she may even transfer you to the clinic and you can ask one of the nurse practitioners. I think that if they wanted it so bad, they would have given a new script to you when they gave you the order for the cordisol. You can always call Leslie and ask her. Also, you are going to have pre-op blood work done anyway so I really wouldn't worry about it.

Bugs, I had to have a 24 hour urine also so it must be pretty routine.

Kisha, I have sleep apnea and have been sleeping with the machine for years. I take it everywhere as I know it makes me feel better BUT lately things haven't felt right, hard to breathe some nights, very dry, using a ton of Water, etc so I am going to see the doctor Thursday. I think it is to early but many times losing weight means you no longer need it. I will probably have to have another sleep study and I hate them! Sleep study-what a joke, who can sleep with all those wires and monitors!LOL I have lost 40 pounds so we will see.

This is a hard time for you to be diagnosed as you are losing weight and your mask will fit differently and your pressure will need to be changed. Good luck.

NBflo Girl, things are getting better. I am not PB'ing constantly like last week. I have really paid attention to what I am eating and what I can't tolerate. I am scheduled for a fill on Tuesday at 1pm Yeah Right!!! Maybe an unfill is more like it. I'm surviving on nuts and Soup at work and at home I can add oatmeal and eggsalad/tuna- on a good note my knees are feeling great.(one reason I had this surgery was because they want to do a total left knee replacement.and I'm too young for that/so I'm trying to buy myself some time. I think 100lbs off my knees should help!!! How are you doing?

they had a lot of good ideas, i'm down by 20 in about a month so stick to it. there is one thing i do know about the program they are very serious about losing weight the heathy way and will tell you flat out tell you your not ready. then your back to square one.

I had my surg in june and my apnea machine has been titrated down 3 times from 18 to 12 and now it is set at 8, so if your having problems, get the machine to take home for a week and then you dont have to do another sleep study..

Hi viki, i have independant health, is the machine covered??? do you know?? Or does any one know??? if not how much is this thing? I'm not too happy about it, but of course they make you bring it to the hospital the day of the surgery. they are strict!!! I guess thats good, i really should be using it, so they say.

I have Independent health also. My machine was like 40.00 I think to rent. As soon as the surgery was over I returned it. I really didnt have sleep apnea. They told me if it was a 5 or above you had it. My # was a 5.3 so I think it was a crock of s***. But you may really have it. I just wanted the machine so I had it for surgery. I never used it in the hospital they didnt really care.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
