Does anyone have Independant Health? My husband is thinking of switching insurances. What are their requirements?

i just had surgery with IH. Dr. H says he has a good repore with them. I believe you have to have a BMI of 40 or 35 with co-morbiditys. I am sure if the 5% wight loss requirement is theirs or the WLS center.

great job band

val

Val, we can let you know if we are meeting for coffee in the evening. Linda and Band are out my way so we would be meeting around here somewhere. But you would be welcome (any one else as well!)

You have to also check what is in your policy, not just the insurance company. For example, I have United Health Care, which covers the band, however, the policy my company has with UHC does not include the band. So UHC would not cover it for me. If you switch, look into the plan as well.

I would be interested in the turkey trot. I will not be running though. Is there a regisration fee? What time does it start?

I think it is about 9 am, it is on Thanksgiving day. It is about 5 miles. If you register on line it is $25.00. That includes a long sleeve t-shirt and the party after, which ends about noon or so. You could probably walk without registering, there is about 10,000 people in the race. Some are in costume. It is a lot of fun.

To register online it is YMCA turkey trot, the course is Delaware avenue.

you have to check your individual policy...most insurance plans are actually dictated by your employer & they put the req on what they will cover & the information they will req from your doctor for pre-approval.

good news just found out from my husband that our insurance should not be changing probably just an increase in premiums which isnt too bad since they cover everything.

Also.....i cant remember how this worked, do you get put under anesthesia for the surgery or are you awake the whole time? I was awake for my c-section it was a little scary but not that bad. The only other time I was actually put under I had a lot of problems & aspirated (spelling?)....?

I would keep calling anyway, I was promised an October seminar ans never got a letter. I've been calling for a few days now wioth no luck!! I'm getting soooo discouraged. :D

I would keep calling until I get ahold of Marietta. The line usually goes to voice mail and they say to leave a message. But you never get a call back. Keep on trying the number until you get her at different times of the day. Give her your name and ask her to pull your chart. Then ask her when the next seminar is and if you will be included in that bunch ?

Don't get discouraged... Keep calling at different times of the day... every day for as long as it takes... Eventually, you will get Marietta and have her pull your chart. As I said before, don't bother to leave a message...

Don't give up, it'll happen!!!

I don't think Posner or Hoffman do it while you're awake---I don't know of any surgeon that does that, actually---ack, I wouldn't want someone suturing the port to me and moving stuff around inside of me while I'm awake, gah!!!

I'm going for a fill tomorrow--kind of nervous. I think I've only lost about 10 lbs. since my weigh in on September 23rd. Kind of discouraged, seeing as though I've done just about everything to a T. I could've kicked more butt at exercising, but I just got back into my routine. I'm also concerned about how it feels to get a fill. Does it hurt? Eeek!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
