HI Y'all Considering Docs in DFW TX area

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am considering the procedure and I have my first appointment with a Center in Hurst, TX. I'm not sure yet if my insurance will cover or not. I'm hoping they will be able to tell me for sure next week. I have UHC, but I'm getting mixed information. I'm getting pretty excited, but I'm also pretty nervous.

I have a question for anyone that has used Dr. Marsden or Dr. Kim. Anything you can tell me about the process would be appreciated. After the intial info meeting, what happens? What are the usual steps?

I was first looking at Dr. Marsden, but then I understand that Dr. Kim may have a better price for self pay if I have to go that route.

Thanks for any help.

Whether the surgery is covered is totally based on if your insurance has an exclusion. It's usually pretty clear if bariatric surgery is covered or excluded.

I had my surgery done at the clinic in Hurst. I had the most awesome nurse when I was in recovery. Anyways..... I used Dr. Adam Smith. I also had my 1st fill this past Monday at the clinic. You have a choice of either filling at Dr. Smith's office or the clinic. The clinic is closer to my home.

Good Luck.

I've heard several people say that they loved Dr. Marsden. I don't have any personal experience with him but have heard good things. Good luck!

I had surgery April 9th, 2007.

I'm happy with my doctor and progress...I've had a total slow down of weight loss the last two months but...it's for a life time not a race.

There's NO pre-surgery diet...and he's aggressive with fills. He always uses fluro to check out the band and the fill...that's so very important.

Good Luck!:)

I just had my surgery on the 3-4-2007 I used Dr. Marsden. I think he is wonderful. He answered all my questions. My surgery went great. I was back to work on 3-6-2008. I also have UHC and you will need to get 5 years of wieght history and whatever else you policy my require. But I would use Dr. Marsden if you have the chance. I can't say enough good about him.

Thank you for your opinions and experience. I am going to go with Dr. Kim because my insurance requirements are higher than I first thought. 40+ with 2 co mobidities. It's my employer's requirements. I don't have any co mobidites "yet", and I don't want to wait for them to develop. How stupid is that?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
