Almost 4 years and 4 lbs

Recommended Posts

I am a self-pay patient who was banded in Nov. 2004. On operation day, I was 240 lbs. I started losing when I got a good 2cc fill in mid-2005. By November 2005, I was 212 lbs. This lasted until Feb. 2006 when I had a vomiting episode and a band slip.

They emptied my band, and I gained to 218. As they put some fill back in, I had severe gastric reflux with pain so bad it made me pass out once. They emptied my band again and put me on liquids only for a month. I lost weight on liquids to 207, and was slowly adding fill back to my band through early 2007.

In Feb. 2007, at 232 lbs, I got a decent fill (2.2 cc) for the first time in a long while, but after several deaths in my family and two sprained ankles, I stopped getting fills and exercising...until now.

Now I'm 236 lbs, and getting my first fill in a year tomorrow. This has been a frustrating and long road. It amazes me that a group like this forum exists now -there was so little when I started this journey.

I hope to come back here often and try to work with this band with the help of all of you.

I am so glad you posted- I often wonder how people do with the band long term. I am terribly sorry about your slip- I hope you get back on track and we are pulling for you!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
