I'm scheduled for a sleep study...wondering what to expect?

Lots of wires ran everywhere *LOL* Steve it is very easy they tape wires all over your head chest and lower legs. I asked for a sleep aid for fear I would not be able to fall off to sleep knowing I had all the gadgets on me.. They wake you the next morning and off you go..

It's the Amy part of Steveamy LOL!I was wondering if they will let you take anything to help you sleep or not. I have ambien that I take as needed, I'll have to ask if I can take it because I imagine it being difficult falling asleep hooked up to everything! Thanks for the info!

Yep...that's pretty much it! lol

They use these little pieces of sandpaper and some smelly stuff all over your head, face, chest and legs to make the wires stick to you better. They attach all the wires to a little box on the wall and "plug" you in when it's time to go to sleep. I had to bring my own sleep aid...they want you to do whatever you normally would at home. They want you to sleep as much as possible...the more data, the better they can determine what's going on and make recommendations.

Oh, btw...the sticky stuff comes out when you shower, but you may have to work on it a bit if you have a lot of hair!

Good luck!

A sleep study is no big deal. They will watch and monitor your sleep throughout the night...to observe if you stop breathing while sleeping. Then they will determine if you have sleep apnea and determine if you need a CPAP machine.

Sorry Amy, I am sure if they are prescribed to you they will allow it. As a matter of fact I think that is what they gave me to help me sleep.< /p>

I wasn't allowed to take anything before mine - even to have a drink before mine. But I'm sure different clinics are different.

Do be prepared for the most uncomfortable night of sleep in your life lol .. but its only one night. The wires drove me crazy and I thought I'd never get the sticky stuff out of my hair, but I survived .. and you will too

It's all fairly simple, except for the hooking up the wires part. Even that wasn't terrible. And as most said, they will evaluate you and let you go in the morning. They tried to pull most of the sticky monitor bits off but I ended up finding more once I got home and into the shower. Peeling the adhesive off was good times!

With me, my apnea was so bad they woke me up after about an hour and a half of observation and immediately hooked me up to a CPAP machine.

And to be frank, for me, learning to sleep with a CPAP is probably harder than the actually process of the sleep study.

You'll be just fine, I'm sure! Good luck and sleep tight!

My sleep study was the oddest thing because they made me stay up all night and then had me come in to do it in the morning. I had the hardest time trying to stay awake all night and finally dozed off for alittle while sitting up on the couch. By the time I got there at 7am to do the study I was so tired that I had no problem going to sleep and never woke up till they woke me up at 3:00 that afternoon. It was the weirdest thing. They hooked up all those wires to me and left me on a bed and the next thing I knew I was out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
