How long did you wait for a baby??

Recommended Posts

A quick question for all you band mama's! How long were you banded before you got preggo. I know the doc says 12-18 months ... I'm not ready for kids yet but I am just curious. How many pounds were you down when you got preggo?? I am probably going to have to get on birth control cause I know my fertileness will shoot through the roof soon. But I wanna enjoy my new sexy body for a little bit before I have a baby now for long but a lil while would be nice LOL. But thanks for any and all responses. Love and blessings APPLES!

2 weeks! Very unexpected, but very welcome....thank God I got the band instead of the bypass! My doctor never brought up birth control, i think it was because i was a guinea pig for the band at the hospital, one of the first. When I told the nurse, they were really shocked, they said usually body is too calorie deficient to reproduce. Obviously, that is very untrue! But I couldn't be happier, I just had to pick up with my weight loss about 6 weeks after baby, I got another fill (i had fill, but no restriction through pregnancy). I only gained 10 pounds up until 9 months, then I had hypertension, and gained 30 in last month! I looked like a beach ball!

But within that 6 weeks after, I was back down to weight before baby.

We waited 6 months. i was nly down 43 lbs but she will be worth it. I will lose it all again once she is here. My doctor was not all that worried. They did have to let me out b/c I was so sick at first. I will get filled back up 6 weeks after the baby is here.

We were about a year out -- might've been sooner, but it took me almost 9 months to get pregnant. My surgeon never mentioned a specific wait-time for pregnancy. In fact, I was told I could have the band even if I was planning on getting pregnant right away because it would help with weight gain during the pregnancy.

I am not banded yet, but planning to be in March. I already have a 10 month old daughter, so fertility isn't a problem for me. However, I just want to have a healthier pregnancy. I was 226 lbs when I got preggers and was 280 when I delivered. A lot of the weight I gained in the last 2 months was actually Water weight from being soooo swollen. I was fine until my last 2 months, and then I was miserable. I'm hoping to get pregnant again as soon as possible, but I want to weigh no more than 180 when I do so. I am also hoping that the band will aid me in not gaining too much weight again during pregnancy. So, however long it takes me to lose 60 lbs, is when I'm going to start trying again!

I just had my first visit with my doc. I have to do five more months of supervised diet and then wait approval. If all goes well my surgery date would be late September early October. He then said to wait 18-24 mths. There is NO way Im waiting that long.

Wonder why he suggests that?

I got pregnant just before my 2 year band anniversary - like 2 weeks before. My surgeon advised waiting 1 year. In fact, he required it. The extra time was me wanting to get a few more pounds off, and trying without any luck for pg.

i was banded in october and i'm pregnant now, and i have no idea how far along i am . so i'm not sure how long i waited, but not as long as i wanted to.

and i was taking bc and we were using withdrawal majority of the time, but i still got pregnant. ob says losing fat cells increases your fertility 10 fold. all that estrogen pumping through your body. after we have this one, i don't know what all we will need to do to prevent that from happening again.

Well, I will be happy to share with you my weight tracking here it is:

Pre surgery(size 18 W weight 221; Surgery June 05

From June 05 to January 07 had lost near 100 pounds. Was 127-130 became a size 4-5; Got pregnant February 07 137 lb, band was fully opened and with out restriction for pregnancy term....ballooned up to 204 ( I ate like it was going out of style...I do not encourage anyone to do this); had baby on September 10th 2007. I let 4 months go by before a fill, I returned to work and had one fill on January 08....so from 207 pounds at delivery I have lost 45 pounds; now at 162 lb or so and have some vomiting issues...perhaps band not well fit, but over all that's the best I have done. I see my self in June down to a size 7 again. I had my tubes cut, so no mo'babies, I have a 13 year old ...and after a divorce in 05, 3 years late I met my new husband and we now have a baby girl...he had never had any kids, so I had my daughter, I am 33, he is 27... this year is "plastic surgery time" for me...if all goes as planned. hope this helps you and anyone expecting...its a joyful time enjoy your pregnancy and forget everything else (Oh! and becareful withthe throwing up thing ...it can cause some painful swelling of the band area....)....when you are ready to seriously start loosing again:thumbup:, you will do just that! don't forget to walk a lot all the way to full term, it will help you tremendously when delivery time comes....! If you need any further help ...just ask!

Iate... The reason doctors suggest the 1 year waiting period is so not only do you have an opportunity to have the healthiest pregnancy possible. But also for psychological reasons. Most people who lose a lot of weight, especially women have a hard time understanding they're going to have to gain a good bit of that weight back for the pregnancy. But i think women who've been desperate for babies for so long probably aren't as concerned with gaining the weight.

I'm 29, the husband is 30 and i'll be waiting a year, just because i want to be as healthy and as ready for pregnancy as i can be!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
