port site pain

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on 1/25 and really had no pain to speak of. Lots of itching. Slept on my stomach by day 5. I started exercising this past week. Walking a couple of miles daily and some step aerobics. I have been noticing port site pain. When I walked the other day, I literally had to hold my side it hurt so badly. I slowed down to more of a stroll and it receded. I did my step aerobics tape the other night - no pain. Only now I seem to always have a slight discomfort/pain/pulling feeling. Is this normal and will it go away? I am very interested in your experience on this. Thanks. Karen

Yes, for me the port seemed to hurt a bit in the beginning. If I remember it took about 6 months off and on for it to get its act together. Good luck to you.

Thanks for your reply. It is just a little scary and I don't see my doc for a few more weeks until my first fill. I suppose I could call them, but this web site has been so helpful and informative. I thought I'd ask here first! Karen

Keep in mind that to put in the port, they cut through muscle. When muscle is healing, it hurts.

A lot of us experienced it and it's probably nothing, but if it starts to concern you, call you doctor, if even for that lil bit of reassurance to help you rest better

I was banded in 2004, and I still have port pain when I do certain movements or worst yet, when my boyfriend hugs me and accidentally rubs on it. Port pain has been my biggest band peeve.

Your port sight is the area that will be uncomfortable the longest. I still feel some paint there after exercise. I wonder if you should be doing step aerobics yet. I had to wait two months. I had to just walk for the first two months. But, yes, port pain is common.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
