:confused:I was just wondering where some of the members' ports are placed. I didn't know with mine until I went to my MD's office today to weigh (my scale at home was acting up). I am 6 days past surgery (2/7/08) and as I said when I went to weigh one of the nurse's asked if I was having any problems and I told her only with the incision that is under my left breast. She looked at it to make sure it wasn't infected and said I was probably having trouble (more soreness than my other incisions) because she thought that was where my port was. I had not examined the incision all that much I just thought it was hurting because one of my big ol juggs was laying on it. LOL. Anyway, after she said that she said, "Here feel of it, you can feel it under the skin". OMG. I about died. I asked her if that was a good place to put it, because I thought it would be on my abdomen. She said it was probably a good place for me because there isn't much fat over where it is and if the MD put it in my belly he would have had a harder time finding it during fill appointments. I was just wondering if anyone else out there had their port in that place. Probably someone with a higher BMI is what I am thinking. I hope it heals OK. I have to go back to work on 02/16/2008 and I have to wear a bra. That's gonna be fun... NOT! I do know that I'm not having any other trouble than with that incision site. Just wondering about everyone else's???? By the way...8 lbs in 6 days. WHOOT WHOOT!!!

I'm only a week ahead of you, banded 2/1/08. My port is in the same place you describe, and still hurts some, although it's much better than at first. From what I've read, it can take three weeks to six weeks to get completely over the soreness. I have been wearing my old, stretched out bras since I've come back to work. If you have a wireless, I suggest you wear that. Better to be a little floppy than to be in pain! LOL!!! I know this, too, will pass, and we'll both be better off in the end. Good luck to you! Oh, you might also think about buying a bra extender. The looser, the better!

kjeter,

Thank you soo much for your quick reply. I was really thinking I had some kind of freak placement. My best friend who had surgery the same day as me thinks her's is somewhere else. I bet she's wrong. lol. My good bras aren't underwire, that would kill me regardless, but they are pretty snug for support. I will definitely be dragging out some of my old ragged ones. Thank goodness I'm a packrat! HAHAHA. Thanks for the great advice and your input on the port. Glad to know the soreness will pass. Best of luck to you too. We can do it!!!!

My port is located under my right breast. I remember that being where the majority of my soreness came from too.

As for the bras, prior to my surgery I purchased some sports bras and found them to be very comfortable during the healing process while still providing a good amount of support.

My port is under my left breast. I was banded 01.15 and I'm not in any pain at all now. Actually, I feel like I didn't have anything done at all. My swelling is gone so now I can feel my port pretty easily.

My port is under my left breast too. I was banded 12/17/07 and it is only sore now if I stretch to far. Or sometimes if my waistband is too tight. My BMI was quite high so that is probably why my port is where it is.

I still have a little soreness from my port and it is under my left breast also. I call it my baby and sometimes my baby starts to kick.

Mine is just a tiny bit to the left of center...about 3 inches below my breasts, but before we get to "the belly"!!!! Has never been an issue getting to it....My incision under the breast was just a support incision or maybe the placement incision....but the sweaty environment worried me too. It healed just like the others though.

Good luck---sounds like you are all off to a good start!

I had to have a port revision in September 2009 due to my port being under my left breast, right on the bra line. It continued to become infected and once when I was getting a fill, my doctor withdrew pus and decided right then and there that I needed the revision. It is now 3 inches lower. I do hope though when I have my panniculectomy in Nov. 2010 that it can be moved even a little bit lower.

Mine is just to the left and about an inch above my belly button. Mine was originally a little higher and had to be moved due to the port flipping, but was never anywhere nearly as high as my breast area.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
