Out to Dinner?

Recommended Posts

My sweety and I are going out on Saturday for Valentines Day. He's letting me choose the restaurant. I'm three weeks post surgery, no fills yet, and on regular food (just small portions).

Any suggestions? Sashimi is probably the safest bet, but I had that this weekend, and honestly thought it wasn't nearly as good as sushi.

Hmmm...? How about Lobster Tails, many restraunts around here will let you add a lobster tail to a main dish. My DH will order his meal and I just add the lobster tail on to his order for me. Fish in general is a good choice. I also think that Indian and Ethiopian Foods are generally band friendly. Just not the Indian nann bread. Oh and I love going to those Japanese Steak houses and ordering Lobster as well YUM!.

The best restaurant I have found for bandsters is The Melting Pot (or other fondue places). Why is fondue perfect? The portions are smaller in quantity and in size. You're cooking your meat in liquid so it's virtually always moist and tender. You're having to cook your food, so you're forced to eat slowly. (DH and I went to Melting Pot for our anniversary and it was a 4 hr dinner). They will usually have themed selections including a seafood choice.

Plus often times fondue restaurants have nice little cozy nooks and crannies to seat you in. They also often offer add-ons if your DH is into that kind of thing (e.g. for our anniversary they had taken care of placing roses on the table, preparing a gift bag, and bringing a bottle of wine, plus we had a nice private table and a velvet drape we could use to close off our area from the hall.

I found that steak houses and seafood houses are very band friendly. You can get some grilled fish, which can be easily flaked or mashed for an easy consistency to digest, Soup, mashed potatoes, steamed veggies, chopped salad....lots of mix and match options. In addition, there will always be leftovers to have for lunch the next day!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
