Thanks to everybody for their support. As you know I got my band on Monday. How long before I can stand up without pain. You should see me shimmy to get off the couch. It's a pretty comical sight.

I know everyone is different but I was wondering when this pain will go away. (It doesnt hurt when I sit, only when I getup).

Thanks everyone!!

Patty

Good Morning Patty,

I had very little pain, more discomfort than pain. You'll feel better before the end of the day. Second and third day are usually the worst then it's all down hill.

Did they give you any sort of prescription for pain?? Or do you just take otc stuff like alleve or advil??

Patty: use a pillow to brace your belly when you get up. It helps tremendously. The third day is a little worse but it will get better.

You'll feel the soreness for at least a couple of weeks, but it gets better everyday. You should be able to get up easier in a few days.

They gave me percocet, they make me really groggy. I got some Adult liquid tylenol yesterday, that helps.

I will use a pillow getting up.

Thanks for the tips!!!!!!!

Patty

It took me about a week to be able to get up normally. I almost wish I had a video of myself trying to get out of bed, flipping my feet to the edge of the mattress an inch at a time like a dying fish. I used a four-pronged cane to steady myself whenever I had to rise from a seated position.

The first three days are the worst; you should be feeling better in no time! Meanwhile, congratulations on getting your band.

I remember feeling the pain would never end!!! but, I had surgery on a Thursday and was back to work on Tuesday. I felt almost back to normal by about a week. I should have waited until then to go back to work, but, financially I felt I couldn't wait.

The reason it hurts getting up and down so much is you are using the stomach muscles that were just operated through, plus, your port was just attached in the area. If you have a high armed couch that you can sleep in and put your weight on it instead of your stomach, or do like I did. keep a broom with you or cane if you have one, and put your weight on it when you get up. I found a broom was my best friend for about 3-4 days

I hope I have been helpful

I forgot to mention too. Sometimes when the broom didn't help (well, actually before I figured it out,) I would slide my butt from the couch to the floor. Then, get on my knees (crawl position) and walk my way up by bracing myself on furniture (like a baby would do learning how to walk)

Wow I know everyone is different but I am amazed the wide range of difficulty everyone has had with getting around or pain.

I was fortunate to be up and walking an hour after getting out of recovery and walked the halls at least once an hour until I got released the next day. The only pain I had was from the gas they blow you up with. It settled behind my lungs and I was not able to lay down. They got me a big comfy surgial lounge chair and propped me up and I was very comfortable the whole nite. Gas trouble was gone by 6am the next morning.

I was even able to sleep, and sleep well I did, on my stomach the first nite home.

I hope more people have the easy route but those who don't I hope its just a short time in the pain zone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
