Hi Tracyde! This is Becky in Arizona. I'm going to a seminar this morning. I hope we both learn a lot. I'm looking forward to asking questions. This is probably not the Doc I will use because he isn't on my insurance but I figured I'd go to the seminar anyway. Is your seminar by the Doc you will be using? I have an appt with my PCP next Wed. That is making me nervous. I hope he refers me to a surgeon quickly. Enjoy your seminar. Will probably see you here later today or tomorrow.

Good luck to you too! I think I will be using this surgeon because he's in my plan and I've heard good things about them. We'll see later...

Well, I went to the seminar. It was put on by their patient advocate who is a lady who has a band and has lost over a hundred pounds in just over a year. Very interesting. She showed us the band and port itself wrapped of course around a fake stomach. I am glad that I went but I found that I knew most of what she said from researching on the net. I hope both of you geta lot out of your seminar. Then I guess it's on the the Docs and we'll all see what they say. Keep us posted.

I am a self pay so I am sure it will be different. I went to my first seminar Jan 29th and my surgery is this coming Tuesday the 19th.. Now it may sound quick but I have been researching this procedure online and thru friends for 18+ months while saving money for the procedure.

Ok...I attended the mandated seminar and now I'm 110% sure that the Lap Band is for me. My mind is at ease over the surgery & the anesthesia....no more worries. BUT...we got a list of BC/BS requirements and 1 is the 6 month supervised weightloss from a doctor. I am so mad!! I don't want to wait 6 months. Is there a way around it at all?? I've been going to a Psychiatrist for years and he has documentation of my weight loss tries thru him (pills, therapy, etc). Will that help me instead? It's not once a month for 6 months, but its probably every 3 months for the past few years. Will that help instead? I know he'll write a letter. Help!!!???:D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
