"Green" Day Challenge

Recommended Posts

I am sooo excited because I weighed this morning and I lost the 2 lbs I had gained! I am going to continue with my detox for a few days and hopefully I will get past these cravings.

Kimmie, congrats on the weight loss! I updated your stats! Keep up the good work!

Something I've noticed since I've been back from the cruise...I'm tight as heck! I can barely eat about a 1/2 cup of food! I think I might have hit my sweet spot finally!

Did you have a fill right before you left, or after you got back? Or do you think it has something to do with the change in the atmosphere? I've heard people say that when they travel on airplanes they get tighter, I just wondered if traveling by boat could do the same thing.

Anyway, congrats! I hope it continues to stay that way for you.

How do you detox? I think I need to sometimes. Not now, though, I feel tight. Is this the "sweet spot" everyone talks about? Out of nowhere, I am tight and began to lose weight quicker. In the past two and a half weeks I have lost 10lbs. I'm glad to lose the weight, but it has been annoying that I can't eat much of anything. My shakes are hard to get down in the morning. Again, not complaining, but a little nervous there may be problems.

darr

I call it a detox, but it's really not. Sorry, I guess I should come up with another name for it, lol. I have been really craving sweets lately and giving in, BIG TIME. I decided I would do a few days of nothing but low carb slim fast and Water (I also added in coffee and chai tea).

I did this to get past my sugar cravings. I did it a few months ago as a challenge on another thread and it really helped me. I already feel better and the cravings have almost stopped. I don't recommend doing this very often, because a liquid diet is not the best thing on a regular basis. I only do it if I am having severe sugar cravings. Last week I was having something sweet almost everyday, once I start eating sweets, it's like I can't stop. That's why I try to avoid them as much as possible.

Not only does it help me get past my cravings, since I'm not focused on food during this time, it really gives me a chance to listen to my body. I am surprised that I really haven't been very hungry, which tells me I still have some head hunger issues to work on. Someone suggested doing this a while back and I can't remember who it was, but it works for me.

I guess I could call it a "sugar detox", lol.

Oh, congrats on hitting your sweet spot. I thought I was there with my last fill, but I don't think I am. My band has loosened some, but I still think I'm very close. So far I don't see a need to get another one yet.

Georgia, that is a good way to detox. I know the low carb way of life very well. I am the same way with sweets, just can't eat them or else that is all I want. Hope you get back on track soon. You will.

Today is MY (drumroll plz) SUPER FANTASTIC WEIGHT IN WEDNESDAY! Today I am 276! That is three lbs this week. Am I happy, not really. I had a fill a week ago and possibly found my sweetspot but because of lots of reasons I only made it to the gym twice since then. I really want to work the restriction while I have it. Bottom line it could have been more.

I feel like just when I start to get on track something always gets in the way. I dont think Im going to make this goal either:angry: Esp since my birthday is Sunday and there is much drinking to be done:thumbup:.

SOLUTION=Im hitting the gym HARD for the next 4 days.

Good job on your losses everyone!

Starting weight: 284

Current Weight: 276

Green Day Weight: 268

DOWN So Far: 8 lbs

LBS TO GO: 8 lbs

3 lbs is great! WTG!!! Even if you don't make the goal you set for yourself, you still have time to lose the original goal, which was 12 lbs. Don't be too hard on yourself and remember, any loss is better than no loss. I didn't make my last goal but I was still proud of what I did lose. Hang in there, you can do this!!!!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
