I've been trying new things too! I'm definitely trying to eat something green at least once a day, I strive for more but some days I don't make it. I've been eating spinach, green Beans, sweet peas, edamame, green grapes, green apples, and pesto (which is something new for me but I can't eat a lot of it because it is high in calories). Oh, and I was down another pound today, YAY!

I know spaghetti squash isn't green, but I've been eating a lot of that too. My initial goal was to not only eat green foods for this month, but to eat healthier foods in general. I'm definitely trying new things and I have been pleasantly surprised so far.

I'm still trying to Go Green for the environment too: still using more natural light during the day, washing with cold Water, etc. We started using cloth napkins instead of paper towels. It's really fun trying to come with new ways to go green.

Anyone else want to share how they are "going green" and "eating green"?

Im keeping up with the WL part, but I havent really changed anything diet wise or environmentally. I am a BIG veggie eater naturally. One of my biggest fears about banding was that I wouldnt get to eat raw broccoli (no dressing), its my fav.

Im also pretty Green. I use Compact florescents. NYC requires that we recycle. Mass transpo is the standard here.

(well pre-fill that was) I even bought a new shirt that was GREEN! hahaha ha! I have been conserving fuel by limiting our trips to town to twice a week. I also opened up all of the blinds in the house to let the natural light in. Everyone seems to be doing great!

Mia, you're doing great! Congrats on your weight loss! I updated your stats.

How are you doing since your fill? Do you think you have more restriction?

Well, my weight has been at a stand-still for a few days. I knew it would be happening soon. I ALWAYS lose in spurts. I just hope I start losing again soon to meet my goal! I didn't make the last one and I REALLY want to make this one. I started back exercising today, so maybe that will jumpstart my weight loss again.

I swear we were seperated at birth. My weight is at a standstill as well. I am kinda bumbed today. I know the scales will go down again, but everytime I have one of these plateaus I have this slight panicked feeling. Like, "Oh my, is this it. Am I going to quit losing now." I know I won't, but those old thoughts are sneaking up today. My dh thinks I'm not eating enough. Who knows. Last night I ate a 6 oz steak and a small cup of steamed veggies. It was VERY yummy. My restriction has also loosened up. I don't really want anymore fills for awhile. I am at 8cc and I have been very aggressive with fills. I am just going to keep on keepin one and I'm sure the scales will drop again.

Georgia, I'm with you. I was a few pounds short on the last challenge, and I REALLY want to make this one!!! I also am SOOO ready for onederland.

Let's all hang in there and we will see those scales drop again!!!

LOL, I often think we were separated too! I know how you feel. These old thoughts of "I'm gonna be fat forever" keep poppin into my head. I mean, I know that's not true, but old habits are hard to break!

My restriction is loosening up a little too! Nothing major, but I can definitely eat a little more. I've still been doing really good, with the exception of Sunday. Sunday was a day full of bad food choices for me, but I started back strong today, so we'll see what happens.

I think my biggest problem is that I don't exercise on a regular basis. I did exercise today and I plan on doing it from now on. You know, I really haven't had to exercise, I've lost very consistently without it. I know that eventually I won't lose anymore unless I exercise, so I guess it's time to get my lazy butt up and start, lol!

You are soooo close to Onederland!!! I know you'll make it!!!

We still have 12 more days to go, we can do this. Our bodies need a few days to catch up with the weight-loss. We're doing great. Today I woke up at 182. My goal was 180 and I can't believe I am almost there. I have never made my goal with weight. How great is this!!!!! We're in it together. Don't feel bad about crappy eating, I do it when I get nervous. Oh well...

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
