medicine/pill question

Recommended Posts

I am having an attack of the allergies and sinuses. Has anyone taken Benadryl with the band? My pills are capsules but very small. Think I can one since it's small? I am 2 weeks post op and only have 4cc's.

Also, can I take Benadryl with the liquid Hydrocodone since they both make me sleepy?

Thanks!

I would call your doctor being 2 weeks post op .

Each doc is so different that it would be best.

You can always get the liquid benedryl also if he says its ok to take.

I am pretty sure Benadryl is a Bandster safe medicine, as long as it's not on your Docs list of no-no's. I wouldn't think the size would be a problem -- I take about 6 pills a day, most of them are about 2x the size of a Benadryl. When in doubt, call the Dr.

I agree that it MIGHT not be an issue but she is 2 weeks post op , and i always try to take liquids when ever possibly just to be safe.

But like you said when in doubt ALWAYS call your doc.

I wouldn't mix the meds. Both depress the respiratory system. Don't pull a Heath Ledger.

I would say a SMALL amount of both. It depends on your metabolism, but if at all possible, I would try to steer away from combining the two...only because of the possible respiratory issues...

My doctor says that the new research shows that it is fine to take pills as they are and he doesn't even prescribe liquid meds anymore.

I am less than a week out from being banded and I have been able to take all my pills (about 6 per day - various sizes) with no problem from the same day of surgery. I do cut the Vicodin in half, but I think it would probably go down OK too.

Of course you should do what your doctor says and whatever is comfortable for you.

I was able to take anything at 2 weeks post op. I take small pills for thyroid and allergies. I also take Omega 3 capuls and those suckers are big. I just had my first fill today so I'm not sure if I can still take those...but my small pills went down fine. Good luck to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
